I got my diploma today, on my birthday. Thats good, since I didn't get anything else. You see, thats because I'M MOVIN OUTTA HERE.
After a long discussion, my wife and I decided that its high time we stopped being so responsible, and time we started getting aggressive about things we wanted. And atop that list, is a nice place to live on the West coast. Since she has a nice job offer on the Kitsap Peninsula, we'll be going there.

Thats a map of my trip. OMFG is that ever a long way. If you stretch it out straight, you can go all the way from Ho Chi Minh City to Perth Australia. Or all the way from Rome to central Africa. And I'm about to drive that. $800 in gasoline by my estimate. Another $1885 to move all of our stuff by a freight company.
I am petrified. I have no job, no idea where I'll be living, nothing. Gonna have our stuff held at a storage center for a few days while we drive around.
SO LOOKOUT, HIPPIES!
I'm coming to town to gawk at your harbor seals and fish throwers at your farmers markets, and get a job or go broke trying.

best of luck man... i think everyone should drive cross country at least once to get an appreciation of how big this f#ckin country is. it's amazing how you'll drive for hours without seeing any civilization then come up to a city like an anthill. i've done the i-10 coast to coast scurry a couple times.
some advise:
1) drive the speed limit minus. you'll lose time but good ol' boy cops bust out of towners for sport. double the fine because they know you won't come back to their shitty county to fight.
2) fill up at the 1st gas station immediately after your tank drops below half. you never know when the next one will come.
3) keep some towels and a couple jugs of water in your trunk just in case
4) get a tune up/oil change/new tires before you leave
5) try to time your stops so that you don't hit metro/cities during local rush hour
6) don't pick up hitch-hiker joe... he'll cut your throat

Bremerton, huh? On the other side of the Sound from Seattle...don't know much about it, but it sounds like a big change! Best of luck!
And no pussyfooting! Be bold!

thanks for the advice fake! It's gonna be really hard to time this stuff, I've not yet set down to try and plan it out. My concern, and maybe somebody can help me out with this, is trying to get a rental property when I don't have a job. The wife and I have enough money saved up for a couple months and we plan on finding jobs when we get there. But I'm spooked that nobody will rent a house to somebody without a job! But I can't get a job without going there... it's kind of a trap and it was never going to be the perfect situation, you know?

awesome. best wishes on your trip and i hope you have a nice landing on the west coast!
when i left florida we drove to san diego and got a hotel right off the freeway 8 miles form the beach. took the car off the trailer and drove until the freeway ended then found some food and drove around looking at the neighborhood. we found a place n 2 days right there in ocean beach 2 blocks from the ocean for $750! a month. no jobs just savings and student loans ;)
i'm excited for you guys. you'll have fun.

one piece of advice,
bremerton itself kinda sucks. plan on getting a gun if u get a place in bremerton. all the surrounding towns are pretty cool though.
the north part of kitsap is nicer imo, kingston/poulsbo/suquamish.. but whatever area you settle theres plenty of ferries to seattle and whatnot.

the job market here isnt too bad. wa min wage is about 10$ i think.
spring is an ok time to look as well, lots of places start hiring for summer.

theres a kinda bigish community college in bremerton, might get work there. its called olympic commiunity college.
i guess bremerton has a little bit of a live music scene, a sort of bar/punk one.
