I got my diploma today, on my birthday. Thats good, since I didn't get anything else. You see, thats because I'M MOVIN OUTTA HERE.
After a long discussion, my wife and I decided that its high time we stopped being so responsible, and time we started getting aggressive about things we wanted. And atop that list, is a nice place to live on the West coast. Since she has a nice job offer on the Kitsap Peninsula, we'll be going there.

Thats a map of my trip. OMFG is that ever a long way. If you stretch it out straight, you can go all the way from Ho Chi Minh City to Perth Australia. Or all the way from Rome to central Africa. And I'm about to drive that. $800 in gasoline by my estimate. Another $1885 to move all of our stuff by a freight company.
I am petrified. I have no job, no idea where I'll be living, nothing. Gonna have our stuff held at a storage center for a few days while we drive around.
SO LOOKOUT, HIPPIES!
I'm coming to town to gawk at your harbor seals and fish throwers at your farmers markets, and get a job or go broke trying.

Welcome in advance to the Puget Sound area.
I love that peninsula. If I could move to the areas West of the Olympic Mountains, I would. But you'll be a relatively short drive from there. Enjoy.

You know, it was the cities that drew me to the region in the first place. Then I started finding out that a lot of what I loved about the cities was true about the nice rural towns that were 20 minutes away. Really, it's the scenery and meeting people that I look forward to. And the mushroom hunting.

deltasleep said: "I want access to seattle, but I want a quiet house to go home to, you know? I'm leaning toward finding a house to rent in gig harbor, because it's closer to tacoma. Tacoma is where I hope to find employment, since the peninsula is pretty rural and harder to find jobs.
I looked at tons and tons of decent urban housing in seattle proper. But I'd rather get something cheap and quiet for a year or two before I figure out where I want to go. This is just kind of a general westward movement for us."
downside is the drive to gig harbor and back from tacoma can be a bitch during commuting hours... that its a toll bridge one way sucks as well

gig harbor is O.K. I grew up there actually (lived there from ages 10 to 17)
it *is* closer to tacoma... and that's a good middle ground. Yeah, it's hard to find a job out that way, closer to tacoma is better. Gig harbor is hmm... well it's hard to explain, but it's not too bad, haha.

lol@20min.
My wife commutes 2hrs one way, 3 days a week. I commute 30 minutes to work one way.
When you work with kids or in schools, you don't want to be in the neighborhood. Everywhere you go it's like OH HEYYYY MR.C!
And toll bridges suck. Hows the drive from the peninsula to tacoma? Google maps estimates a 48 minute commute from bremerton to tacoma.

i'm sure the commute to tacoma sucks. there is LA like traffic around seattle sometimes. many times jdg had to make that seattle to tacoma drive w/pastries didn't he?
i wouldn't worry too much though.. the + are bound to out weigh the -
