--> I got a terabyte drive a few weeks ago and made several partitions in hopes of minimizing casualties in the unfortunate event of a crash. I set osx's time machine to back up my laptop's internal hd to one partition, but I'm using another external hard drive as a scratch disk for music and video works in progress. Time machine allows me to back up multiple drives, but I can't figure out how to specify multiple backup destinations. Ideally I'd be able to back up my internal drive to a specified internal partition, and my scratch disk to a specified scratch partition.

Any ideas?

or, if anyone has any good mac programs that will handle automated backups without TOTALLY killing computer performance, I'd appreciate any endorsements.

hmmm. If I'm not mistaken (and I may be!) TimeMachine will only back up data from the home-drive to one external drive. There is probably a script or patch work-around on Google somewhere... but damned if I know. There are loads of free back-up routines that are Leopard compatible. Check under downloads on the Apple web-site, and Google (of course). This could also be done as a fairly simple script as well (don't ask me though... I don't write those - yet!).

I use deja vu easy and very configurable

Super Duper is a great, flexible OSX backup program. I have it set up to run two scheduled back ups: I back up my system drive to a disk image on External Drive #1 once a week, then back up External Drive #1 to External Drive #2 a day later. It's totally seamless and reliable. And it's cheap too.
