Some one on 8bitcollective made the above video and posted it on YouTube. Then it was taken down after copyright infringement claims by a third party.

Which brings up the point. If its not really your music and you've violated the licence that it was released under why say that its violated your copy right? That's Lo-bat's call.

Or Covax whose drum have been sampled pretty heavily by CC.

What strikes me as funny is that if CC had contacted any of the artists they would have had no problems. Also if they had made statements about how they had no contact with the chiptune scene and came up with the sounds on their own.

Plagiarism: This is another good read on the subject.

I wonder if the girl is just caught in the middle of all this

this will all be over soon. and when it is, there will STILL be assholes who will steal shit, and this "good fight" will probably be completely forgotten down the road. if it isn't, and it actually causes people to not rip-off music, that's great. but that's a lot of faith in a humanity that is stealing music to begin with.

I can't help but think that the girl is, as you say, is just caught in the middle. She is so young and obviously just part of this dude's plan to make it. She has *no idea* what is going on. All she knows is that she is a super-star (in her mind) and this is her chance. She appears to be a doll that the dude controls. All those publicity photos of her are, well, sinister. Look at her face and eyes - she looks wasted most of the time.

Do you think it is her idea to hide their faces in press photos? Not for a minute. The whole "keep it a mystery" is a common theme in 'pop music', which, it is quite clear this band is aiming at. If they play their cards right, and I am sure they will, they will undoubtedly be the next Fischerspooner or Daft Punk indie-pop-star-fame wise. IMO of course. I think there is a lot more money at stake here than anyone realizes. It isn't easy to get a video pulled from YouTube. Not at all. You really need to have some clout and weight.

interesting comment on the girl... I never thought of it like that.

Apparently they met while doing community service for drug related charges.

Man doesn't the girl look like the singer for die mannequin?

Maybe the reason why they're that popular is the clout behind claudio in the first place. The music isn't that great.

LOL don't forget to throw your used underwear at the 'band'

i think it is something in between a fratboy prank and prankster's drunken or stoned idea of irony.
lots of e.m. . . it's harder to sample than to just make. it takes a few effortful steps to sample something. like finding it first, then downloading. then listening to it and deciding to like it. jeez. it's faster to sequence something in Live.

i would not accuse the person of lacking talent. and taste is purposefully avoided.
it might be interesting to listen to in 20 years as an oddity.

it is no basic channel, arthur baker, etc.

chops but not genius.

and is legally risky.

The lo bat stuff they sampled (and i know its not everyone's cup of tea) doesn't fall into that category imo (i don't know how much of covox they sampled). And its arguable that 'finding it' doesn't qualify as a step, since--as the cliche goes--you often only know that you were 'looking for' something with hindsight, after you found it.

cbit,
yeah, u r right.
