I really enjoyed this, It's about the development of chuck but it also shows really interesting about bit the Princeton Laptop Orchestra.

If you have the time, it's better than watching the wedding planner!

I love ChucK.

thought it was going to be about mlbot's dog

The funny thing about ge wang, is that the name can be translated as "song emperor".

i just went to a McGill Digital Orchestra (http://www.cirmmt.mcgill.ca/research/projects/Digital_Orchestra/) lecture the other night and I find myself comparing and contrasting the different approaches they are taking to digital music making... McGill is trying to create digital musical instruments that are much like traditional instruments while Princeton is conforming to traditional hci paradigms.
i'd like to see some sort of happy medium, though I find that Princeton has had much better musical results.

eat a dick

ricemutt: is that directed at me?

probably

yeah pretty much.... lol
@nagrom - yeah I agree the most interesting stuff is happening somewhere between building instruments modeled after traditional instruments and building instruments along the recent hci tradition. human computer interaction research in general tends to be extremely tied to traditional instrument models (which isn't always a bad thing) or other existing models: mechanical interface history I guess, knobs switches, faders, etc. somewhere along the line we'll stumble across new and better ways of looking at instrument design I'm sure, but for now both approaches as long as they look forward are interesting imho.

@ricemutt wat?

erik: nothin really, I was just telling him to eat a dick

PLOrk info is here, including (IIRC) lots of videos of their performances: link

lol @ fortnight for a duration variable.

Im gonna program a sidreal duration cycle.

just finished watching the whole thing. it makes me want to learn chuck. i'm gettingpretty frustrated with max. connecting patch cords is really getting on my nerves, i'm working with a system with up to 16 sets of 24 params...

anybody have experience using it on xp?

i am using chuck on winxp. it works but i am not sure if i'd like to use it live. it's not totally reliable.
recently someone compiled it for asio. i didn't have time to check that out.

Flies@I started playing with ChucK after a quick google came up with something Hecanjog said about it in a comparison between SC and ChucK. He mentioned that it is easier to write something without even finshing the documentation. I like the idea of being able to get in there and experiment.

It's much easier to get your head around than supercollider. It's not as a powerful...my main concern is that I can't code gui elements to my knowledge.
