--> Just ordered nanoloop 1.3 ... wondered if anyone know of artists who use it in an improvised live setting, not the traditional 8bit chiptune and/or breakcore way . Personnally I'll use it to interact with live turntable sampling and drone building ...

Klangstabil did an album a few years ago with a GBA called Gioco Bambino that is very un-chiptune-like. Kind of noisedrone and repeated bloops.

There are some clips from it on their site. Don't know if you can still get your hands on a CD, though.

I do use it for droney noisey type things, though not as my exclusive instrument. The cool thing is that you can modulate certain parameters even after the note on, which makes it pretty versatile.

there are other gameboy sequencers, nanoloop might not be the one for you. unfortunately, i have no idea what the other ones are called, but i've heard ppl say that there are others that are way way better. of course, it's very subjective what's better, but just konw there may be superior alternatives to nanoloop, especially for non looop based stuff.

I know about the others , however from these I do think that Nanoloop is the best suited for on the fly improvising nevertheless ... I hesitated about the new 2.1 version for GBA only , but decided against despite the more advanced synthesis features , in favour of the ol'grey grittyness ...

I think Nanoloop is pretty nice for ambient stuff, probably even better suited then LSDJ (though I've only used the demo). Once you get the interface down, it's very comfortable to tweak live (either in a subtle or not so subtle way). Even though it's called Nanoloop, to me it seems a lot more loose and freeform than the other GB apps.

I made a nice little droney binauralish ditty with it a while back, I'll see if I can find and post it.

I still haven't been able to get into 2.0. I should just sit down and play with it, but it's just not as immediate as 1.3.

Low tempos and parameter tweaks should make 1.3 good for on the fly improv dronage.

why is it that so many breakcore people use gameboy/nes sounds?
I think it's the shear fun factor..which breakcore is all about.

Shamann : thx. for the info on Klangstabil and the Mhz label ... som enice things on there .
