--> Hi,

Inspired by some nostalgic messages w/ mlbot, I've been revisiting much of the old Skinny Puppy catalog. I just want to open the floodgates of love for those guys in their heydays. I mean, seriously, Rabies, Cleanse Fold & Manipulate, Vivisect6 etc. everything through Last Rights really are such gorgeous gems of indignant, righteous protest music, with soooo much innovative sound design and approaches to e-composition.

Skinny Puppy is the shit.

So there.

I love Skinny Puppy. Cleanse Fold & Manipulate has been playing in my car for the last week! I have also been listening to Skinny Puppy- Bites...obsessively.

Skinny Puppy inspire me constantly. All their unique sounds and percussions seem to flow so effortlessly. They are the reason I picked up a drum machine and never put it down.

Have you heard the new Download album? It's cEvin Key of Skinny Puppy's side project. I heard the album 'Fixer' is the bizness!

Which came first, the song or the band Download? good question, since I'm not sure if anyone knows, or really cares, because download kicks the pants off any skinny puppy wannabe bands (cough... sister machine gun... cough).

Let me explain about rabies, i do like the album, but something about it seems really weak, the production on alot of the songs is really sparse compared to albums like vivisect, or cleanse, and especialy last rights. but its got soem good songs, like warlock. but im not a fan of the oh so jourgensen influenced songs like tin omen and fascist jock itch. al had too much say on that album i think.

my favorite albums are the middle few. the 'golden age', cleanse, vivisect, mind: tpi has some good moments, TDP and last rights.

im dissapointed that its hard to find good industrial. whenever you look for industrial you get ebm and nitzer ebb wannabe synth poppers. but than you look for post industrial and you get the really 'hardcore' noise stuff like whitehouse and brighter death now. for a while there a few years ago White Noise Stasis had my industrial tastes quenched. but the musicianship and production isnt aod as skinny puppy, but hes got the right idea and i wish i could have found more stuff by them. Satka has some good music. i think the label Entity is my favorite 'industrial' label, although they do drone and glitch stuff too. but alot of it is really dark in the vein of industrial.

Have you purchased any SPK yet, loser? If not.... YOU LOSER.

Thanks for the tip on Entity, i had never seen that.

i have two psk albums, but its the later more techno stuff.

i think ive also heard their old old stuff that was on Industrial Records and a year or two after that, i think i saw a video that they made. it was very classic industrial, classic like TG.

just got it! It is beautiful. A perfect balance of complexity, textures and gurbily synth lines.

last rights is a fucking masterpiece! best skinny puppy album ever! out of all the older stuff rabies is my leas favorite as well... if i wanted to listen to ministry i would.

speaking of ministry, everything he has put ous since twich is just okay at best. and with sympathy is the best thing he ever did. i adore that album. and hands down, the best thing to come out of the ministry camp is the lead into gold album.

the majority of what i listen to is older industrial. how about suicide? i was listening to the first suicide rehersal tape at work the other day and this girl said " this music is going to give me nightmares." i have been listeining to armegeddon dildos quite a bit lately. and x marks the pedwalk. there is some pretty cool stuff that zoth ommog put out, i can even tolerate leather strip now (i used to couldn't stand them). i have also been really diggin on attrition and in the nursery lately, not industrial in the strictest sence, but they somehow fell into that crowd.

spk... grame ravel is one of my favorite film composers. and lustmord is intensely good (can you hear him as in influence in my own music? actually, i was doing what i do before i really got into his music).

coil are still gods.

and no one has mentioned the young gods? chrome? controlled bleeding? clock dva?...sheesh.

so much good "industrial" came out in the 'eighties and early 'ninties, why did it have to end?

OMG attrition, controlled bleating etc... they were both heavily into the whole tape exchange scene pre-internet, so I'll always love them for their correspondence with fans. I think a lot of those 80s / 90s underground industrial bands were really into cassette swap networking, it was a lot of fun. I miss those days. Damn internets ruined the world.
also hell yes Coil were phenomenal. So far advanced of everyone but still so accessible at time. Never been anyone else like them. I feel the same about them that I feel about classic Skinny Puppy.

we need to start a tape trading network. featuring really good, solid industrial bands. id be down. i still have a cassette deck and some blank tapes.

i stiill deeply love industrial but i havent been activley searching for anything i havent heard in a while.

Old Skool electronic music fans should track down "Back and Forth Series Two," which I bought as a rabid SP fan in the early 90ies when it came out. It has all their four track demo tapes of super burly electro styled skinny puppy incuding an ambient version of "Assimilate." Its mainly Sequential Pro One, 606, and 808 and delay pedals, and that's it.

Apparently there was another collection called "Brap" that also compiles early werks, need this...

Strategy

i agree, that lead into Gold album is the best thing the Ministry-people ever did. Weirdly haunting.

oh, there's a new download rekkid? shite, must go buy right now!

white nois stasis: link

sounds better now than it did than.

wow psyingo that is really, really, really good
