this friday! aaaaaahhhhh!
i've got my set ready, just need to practice practice. gabbered up a few of my tracks and made a few new ones (just for live shows for now- not done enough to release). pretty nervous, but also pretty excited. scary thing is, all the people who have replied on the facebook page were born in like 1987.
i've been realizing that playing live is more fun when you are less married to your tracks, more willing to mess them up. like this will be more aggro than usual, and my next show next month is with some electro poppy act so i think that set will be more techno techno. this may seem obvious to some, but for me it was hard to break out of what the track "should" sound like. it's really only been since last dec that i've been figuring this out.
but all this playing live has really slowed me down on the new output front. like i said, there are a few tracks i've made for the crowd's dancing pleasure, so hopefully they will blossom into some glorious new creations soon. the label i though i had a release with seems to be on permanent hiatus, and another one that was interested had also gone quiet. if i don't hear from either one i am seriously going to think about putting it on itunes myself. unless of course aaron hears it this friday and phones mike paradinas and hold up the phone to him like in that scene in back to the future.

i am having that same problem as I develop how I will do the "UtOfBu" thing live. It is really quite a breakthrough to settle into your own way of building up tracks from parts. Getting past the "should" barrier is super tough. Its kind of an ego battle I guess. At least it is for me.
it may seem obvious but its still the hardest damn thing Ive tried to get over this year.
Good luck Jen. Kick some arse. I know you will. Wish I was flipping out in the audience to it. Is anyone recording this?

totally an ego battle. but once you do get over it's it's remarkably fun and easy
maybe i'll get a recording finally- although every time i've tried something goes wrong...

for live sets of dance stuff i think its best to have loads of short loops to flick between or mix together rather than having whole planned out songs (unless youve programmed something so good that changing it at all will only ruin it)

Crap I wish I could be there for this show. I haven't seen Aaron play since we were in Seattle. I haven't seen you play ever.
Have fun! I know you will.

Good luck Frn!

Improvising on your tracks in a live situation is really fun! It pretty fun to make completely new tracks out of the parts of your other tracks. So many possibilities! Have fun and KICK ARSE!

yeah i know you have these drum start have always been with one song, and then you trigger them wile another song is playing and it's like whoa....... i do have tons of short loops but also some longer melodies that i like to keep going to string it all together. it is way more fun, makes you less stressed about the crowd in front of you cause you're concentrating on your set more. i wish you could all be here! where's the transporters already? jeez!
