Ever since I have discovered LFO -> Pitch I haven't had to write basslines.

i like this: LFO -> LFO -> pan

Square LFO --> Amplitude = instant trance gate!

it would be really cool if any of you could post a link to tricks you hate (or love). for example, i have somewhat an idea what a " resonance-jerk off escapade" might be, but it would be cool if there's a sample. what i can't stand are:

- 4 hard hi-hats usually in between a transition often in the genre i describe as "gay bath-house music"
- the super-saw sound often found in epic trance crap

I enjoy LFO1 --> Pitch
--> Pan
--> Filter

ooops!! i meant 4 cymbal crashes. i also don't like the forward-ness (especially on vocals), brightness, and lack of tight (non-rumbly) bass in most newer recordings.

what i do like:
--------------------------------
- dynamics, dynamics, dynamics
- sparse-ness
- boards of canada increasingly getting better with their drum programming

Hell yeah i too love the
1. thinking i know what's the next sound is going to be and being absolutely wrong
2. good 303
3. arps and more arps
4. sakura pigma micron 005

I was so happy yesterday, showing one of my students some simple EQ tricks.
I put a HP filter on her vocals, cutting everything below 40Hz, and was explaining the threshold of human hearing and whats audible vs a LFO, when suddenly on the FFT display a massive subsonic WHOOM appeared. I got to highlight that region, play it over an over and ask "do you hear anything LOUD happening, when we can obviousdly see that something "LOUD" should be appearing right here?"

it was like magic.
I hate automation.

I hate safety, ESPECIALLY.. I mean.. do it to it, clicking a screen for hours is craft, not music. blow me. I don't care if it's "more correct".
I hate quantization. It's ok sometimes... But where is your pocket?
Precision is for super talented musicians who practice. There is more to precision than being exactly on the beat.

BRING THE LOTHING!

spark, i love you.

OH HELL YES

dude fuck venetian snares. and i have no apologies saying this, because you know what... i could click on a grid for hours using simple drum rudiments (or i can just listen to a drumline and learn the same patterns) and just rearrange them. there is no fucking "real-time" element at all and that makes it contrived. pre-made. repeatable. NOT unique.

but i am a hypocrite because i also enjoy a lot of music that is pre-made. music concrete. multi-tracked songs. etc.

Fuck metronomes.

Also, I can't believe no one has said filter sweeps. Or they have, and I'm just too lazy to check.

hehe. filarion would hate half my set. Not only do I use arps in half my sets, but I also use resonator on some of my drums! Lol.

These threads make me sad cuz there's ALWAYS something that I do in them.

hehe. carry on, though. I will read it anway.
