I have been looking at the machinedrum since it first came out in the early 2000's. I was always very interested about its interface, sequencer and the parameter locks, but i was always put off by the price and what else was available for that price.
I recently scrapped together enough cash to buy the entry level mark two version without user wave. I am amazed at the potential of this machine.
Now i have always been working with very little space so as much as i like hardware i have always been limited to computers and rack gear and a hell of alot of wiring. I find that recently my table top is bare except for this box,and sometimes a prophecy, and i get a heck of a lot more done.
When i bought the machine drum i was thinking this was going to be a drum machine. Then i found that some of the machines could go beyond drum and percussion sounds. Then i found out about midimachines. All this combined with the parameter locks and a really good UI just makes it so simple and fun.
I just wanted to share this with you guys because i have heard so many of you on here rate elektron stuff in the past and you are so right!
Many thanks,
Horizons

yes, its a nice machine, very inspiring, just jammed and recorded a lot with mine at a studio of a friend. Of course you can, somehow, recreate the sounds and maybe the beats with software but the user interface and workflow and so the results would never be the same and thats the advantage of Machinedrum..

That's dope! I feel the same way about the monomachine. Very inspiring! It's even inspired me beyond the box itself. I've started to look at programs like Reaktor and ableton in a new light... as in getting more creative with them. It's like Jeebus inna box!

ive had mine for about a month now and i just totally love it. its incredibly playable, you get 6 outputs, onboard effects, 16 lfos, tr style sequencing, insanity. i like it so much that i plan on buying the monomachine as my next major purchase, sight unseen, because i am confident that the interface will be that badass.

Don't get me wrong elron i think the onboard wizardry (effects, lfos and stuff) are great and i expected it to have this. What really surprised me was the interfaces ease of use and all the additional machines that give you greater flexibility to control other parameters and the ability to route and external instrument into the machinedrum and use the midi machine to control that external synth.
For me it is like the next step. First we had groove boxes which were very good a doing one thing but limited on their own. Then we got things like rebirth, storm and fruity loops which had the spirit of the groove box but with greater flexibility. The machine drum for me is like the next progression offering that flexibility in a hardware form.

Awesome. I think it's inevitable that I'm going to get an MPC and then either this or MM (leaning toward the latter). It's only a matter of time and money, which of course are pretty big matters. Much as I dislike the idea of everyone having the same gear, I think it's not such a big deal with these machines.

I played around with a MD/MM combo for the first time the other day and thought they lived up to the hype. Really sexy, fun, and intuitive.
They definitely have their own quirks soundwise (kinda thin, harsh imo). They seem to excel at punchy noisy modulated weirdness, which I love, but I wish they sounded a bit more "neutral". I also wish the sequencer was a little deeper/experimental (random playback modes, multiple pattern lengths), for as cool as it is it's very linear.
Anyway, I left really really wanting one or ideally both...

Agreed; There's plenty of room for experimentation and differentiation with the MD. I haven't had any experience with the MM, but would love to try that out.

the monomachine is the centre of my studio when it comes to production...then the 256 for live use.
