--> I'm scrabbling the components together to build a DIY, arduino powered monome. I started a mini blog to document the process in case this info is useful of other people who might also be coming to the project from an electronics n00b angle.

(For those who fancy having a souped up, custom super monome built for them, by someone who knows what they're doing, have a word with daswesen)

manuel is building monomes?

are these compatible with monome softwares?

I'd better not put words in his mouth, but dw certainly has the skills to do it properly. The DIY monomes that are multiplying are all compatible with the monome softs like mlr etc, because they use the open monome serial protocol (of course you can build your own softs too). Props to the monome geezers for open sourcing the project!

Yeah I think I could do that. But I think that if you want a monome clone, you're better off getting one directly, cause it's quite a lot of work if I do it for someone else, so a bit of $$$ for something that is not "industrially" produced. But if you want custom features or things, that would be more interesting, cause that's what I'm good at. I'm thinking at: adding encoders/pots, a display, RGB leds, things like that. Or maybe directly adding analogue sound producers, etc...

thanx for sharing your ventures

thx for sharing. you're site would be 100x cooler if you dropped the adsense/google ads.

brave soul! good luck, haha. looks really fun. I plan on doing something like that at some point...

wow ! the "vanome" project on flickr rocks ! i'd be really up to do this !

i was thinking about a monome with a sd card reader with short samples inside. that would be the dream drummachine
the vanome project does look really pretty! I want one...

yeah especially with pink leds !

the vanome format is very neat, but i'd be worried about stuff falling into the 'guts' of the thing through the open sides.

well... it doesn't look like something risky...

not very risky, but I wouldn't be entirely comfortable throwing that fragile looking thing in a gig bag.

Great info!

will really be looking forward to how this turns out.
