Samples can be downloaded from the Mixit 66 Samples forum, or the samplepack can be had here:

Download the samples, slice 'em, dice 'em, stretch them, run them through effects, whatever you like. Make a track using ONLY sounds derived from the source samples... upload them and be admired by your friends and loved ones, and enjoy cleaner, fresher smelling hair.

oh yeah, I'm in need of a fresh mixit!

edit: only three samples, great

theres 7 altogether and some are fairly long so plenty of sample scope
-
by posting this and downloading the samples i am in no way committing myself to actually doing a mixit
but i will at least check out the sounds and imagine some stuff

oh, sorry about that, not that I mind only 3 samples

I love the smaller sample packs. I think it really forces you to get creative. Also, you get to see just how differently people interpret sounds. Long live teh mixitus maximus!

An aside. I think it would be great if we'd have a few mixits, or perhaps something aside from that, wherein one guy/girl will upload just drums, another just pads, another just blips, and this role would rotate over several sessions. This way, we could see who comes up with samples best for which parts. At the end of it all, we'd assign the best sampler to the best task, and make a track or even an album collaboration style. I know that sounds ambitious, but I think if we played our cards right, and all pitched in, we could make something (CD) that would be viable to sell. Make a profit for each of us, and maybe get some recognition along the way. I dunno. Maybe it is a bad idea. Ownership and such could get weird. What do YOU think? (queue after-school special music.)

omg over 50% guitars!
if you count the bass sample, only 2 samples are not some type of guitar.
(not that I'm complaining, of course, this is just going to be an interesting challenge)

also re:the CD, I really enjoy the fact that mixit is totally free. I don't like the CD idea for several reasons. first being that it seems nobody buys CDs anymore. but a way to raise money for bandwidth is a good idea.

Yeah, I can see that. Maybe a digital only release. I suggested CDs, as I'm a stickler, and don't like how MP3s sound, but FLAC could do, I suppose. At any rate, that's the idea. Keep it going.

Man, this is going to be hard. I have a challenge ahead of me. Aweshum.

i will be participating in this one.

workin' on it now. when is the deadline for submissions?
i think leo has a great idea

yeah I like Leo's idea as well, although part of the mixit fun is of course not knowing what you're gonna get
this one is challenging for sure, but it's great that it's not that instant, I just love how the 'sample-transformation phase' can become really organic
like before you know it those guitars are chopped and distorted, and whatnot 'till you've got something that really works as beats for example.

downloading now.. lets see if i can at least get something in for this one.. :S

The abundance of guitars is my fault ;) I have various guitar tracks that I record when I'm bored and don't know what to do. I really didn't think there would be so few samples. But really it is nice in the end, it would be easier to see how the others used the samples.

I think it would be rad if we try to do a track with only one sample sometimes.

celebacyclub did that once if I'm not mistaken, the one sample track
and of course there's the root of sine over at audiobulb, where you can only use 1 second of a sine wave as a starting point.

I've tried before, but it didn't really work out
suppose that this time I'll just use the guitar samples, we'll see

also, fuck beats

i have a beatless noise piece almost ready

whaaaaat
