--> Maybe it's a bit late in the game to be attempting to build muscle mass, but, damn it, I'm sick of having grover body and avoiding taking my shirt off in the presence of another human being! (Grover body is skinny all over but with massive mid section. NOT attractive!)

A couple years ago I had some digestion issues and went on an insane diet, losing 40 pounds. It didn't solve my problem, and hell, at 140 pounds I was way too skinny, so I began to eat sugar and fun things again. I felt better! My symptoms subsided. Hooray! A year later I had gained nearly 50 pounds and got as fat as I have ever been in my life, approaching 190 pounds.

So, I have begun to train. And basically feel like a piece of damp cardboard set in a snowy driveway which has been warn down repeatedly by the wheels of an SUV. IT HURTS!

I'm writing this blog to sort of make this more serious. Now I can't wimp out.

Note to bodo and jchot: make sure you get your child, when the time is right, to do some form of solid physical activity because it sucks to have to do this in your late thirties.

I've been working out (almost) daily...it really helps with my mind and body.

I do the following:

Keep a list and do one more of the following each day...Push ups, Sit ups and Pull ups. I also do yoga/running every other day.

I'm currently at around 25 push ups, 50-60 sit ups and 10 pull ups (real pull ups).

It's paying off...besides of course being sore constantly. I see the washboard surfacing below my abs, slowly but surely. It also helps with my music as I've got more energy to put behind my creative inspirations.

A healthy body makes for a healthy mind.

i can do 10 unreal pull ups and 50 sit downs and 25 push up bras

I decided a year ago to get in shape since I'm in my early 30s. I started going to the gym about 5 times a week, and did this until recenltly. Now I go about 2 or 3 times a week, doing 30 minutes of cardio and 30 minutes of weights. I also try to ride my bike regularly. I've lost 20 pounds, which puts me back at my normal weight again. I wish I'd done it years ago. You gotta get in the habit of exercise sooner or later.

awwwwwwww...you had to remind me.

i need to do more exercise- like stretching n stuff - today i fucked my back up at work twisting and bending to pick something up
the best exercise is dancing i reckon- you move how it feels good which has got to be good for you
shame theres nothing good to dance to round here

great point, bla. You are right about that. Hey, thanks for all the great advice folks.

Do Cindies!

5 pull-ups, then 10 pushups, then 15 squats.
see how many reps you can do in 20 minutes.
It sucks. It'll make you much more sore than doing pushups to failure.
Zfigz's exercise diary is a good idea.

Biking is more fun, but if you are short on time, mixing up simple exercises can really give you the most bang for your buck. Like tridact's mix of cardio then weights

i like to do 5 crullers, 10 old fashioned, and 15 glazed.

reps every couple rounds of halo
lol, astroid.

mlbot, I can't do a single pull-up, so that one's out.

dont lie...
here's a pic of fredo beating me arm wrestling

I'll put my boot in your trunk!

i don't think you should be exercising if you don't enjoy it. you'll never keep doing it. also you shouldn't be hurting yourself when you exercise. one of my gym teachers used to say that the days of no pain no gain are over, and now people say train don't strain. most trainers of pro athletes think the same way. probably because injuring an athlete in training will get you fired quick. also notice that low impact athletes (like cricketers) generally live much longer than marathon runners and body builders, for example. i walk instead of taking the bus, and i keep thin.

i also stay away from over processed foods like corn syrup, enriched white flour and purified oils. that stuff is the food version of crack. your body really wasn't built to handle super high energy food like that. consuming lots of water and high fiber food is a great way to lose weight. you can get whole wheat versions of most things made with flour now. i've yet to find whole wheat cookies, but if someone made them i'd eat them. its not so much the calories as the lack of nutrients in those high energy foods that bothers me. maybe i'm just neurotic though.
