--> been feeling quite under the weather this morning and unable to concentrate on work, so i have been messing around with my nord micromodular...

you may have noticed eddie/monty released a track here recently called 'sleng teng shanty' after he found the casio mt40 keyboard where the famous 'sleng teng' riddim comes from.

anyway, inspired by his finding and my own recent experiments of in using midi note to switch patterns etc in the nord modular, i have a made an approximation of the 'sleng teng' riddim using only the nord modular for shits and giggles.

thought i'd share it, so here it is :

some crappy audio of me messing with it, haha :

notes on the patch :

you can switch the internal sequencers on by clicking on the 'on' button on the module labelled 'internal clock'.

the patch is also set up so you can sync it to external midi. just switch the two switches labelled 'clock switch' and 'reset switch' to input 1.

you can mute the bassline at any time with midi note B2,
and switch the drums to the 'roll' pattern by using midi note C3 (just like holding down the 'fill' button on the casio mt40

enjoy!

oh forgot to say you can also switch the internal clock on/off by using knob 4 (the button) on the nord micromodular.

<edit> oops i take that back, must've made that change after i uploaded it...

I fucking love "under me sleng teng"
One off the greatest songs of all time.
That bassline/sound combo is the greatest.

in the future, use link for file hosting. I find it nice

i just listened to 'sleng teng finish already' by tippa irie (other side of 'the telephone' 7") he was fed up of hearing the same riddim over and over in 1985

My favorite 'riddim' is the "Murder She Wrote", thats been used in "Ring the Alarm" by Tenor Saw, and "Bam Bam" by Sister Nancy.. Nice work with the Nord Micro!!

bad bwoy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yeah Buju is missing that one

i been doing gigs with the mt40 . i bought one for a tenner. best ten quid i ever spent.
the bass is totally awesome.

had someone hit me up for sleng teng bass, so i made a sample pack up for him. might be of use to you guys too.

sample pack includes sleng-teng loop, low bass C (long), high bass C (long), low bass C (short), high bass C (short)
