i like the part where erik is working with his laptop and because of the glossy screen and its reflections it looks like you edited some flowers and trees onto the laptopscreen.

whoa, you guys clearly overestimate my editing abilities.

Mr. schoster is recording onto a microcassette recorder. You can find them extremely cheap these days since people who used to use them a lot tend to be getting those flash digital sound recorders. I had 2 which I got for free at one point. If you're looking for pristine recordings, probably niot the way to go, but they produce some of the nicest distortions.

the camera is a canon hv30. The hv20's and hv30's (which are almost exactly the same camera) are the deal of the decade imho. They have a pretty large indie film making fan base as well, and there are tons of hacks for the camera online. I did some half assed color-correcting in final cut, but the quality the camera captures is fairly awesome as is.

i really like that opening pan shot where you can hear the bells, then the dissolve into the shot where you can see what he's doing with them!

oh and the glossy screen is SO glossy. i liked it better when it had tress on it than reason. it was kinda mysterious.

those hv30's have 24p mode, are HD and are that cheap!!! whoa. is that one of them that people do the slr lens mod/focal length hack to?

with all these videos you are making me want to dig my camera out of storage and play around with it. once i do i will remember that it is a really crappy $200 samsung and it sucks though. i had a canon zr-10 back in the day when mini-dv really started taking off and i was always really impressed with its picture. the cheap samsung i have now must have a gameboy color for the CCD or something.

The hv20's also have 24p mode and are hd, plus they're cheaper. Originally I was trying to find an hv20 but I happened to find an hv30 for a good price. And yes, there are a bajillion sites on how to do the slr lens hack with this camera, and a few premade kits that are sold if you don't like to build things. I've yet to hack my camera in any way though.
