Is anyone using micro cassette recorders? Any models or brands to you like?
I'm not looking for perfect recordings just something I can carry around with me then feed into my sound card afterwards.
I'll be ebaying my arse off for this! | |

dig dig. london rents. urgh. I guess I was wondering whether you are after the tape sound or summat? If not, minidisc might be another very cheap option.......not that I know loads about it really.

I've got one and its great! highly recommend the olympus. the external mic is aright but ther be not much of a difference in quality compared to the built in beast. produces an interesting distortion as well.

for my field recordings: i use a really old minidisc (it's been the same minidisc inside for at least 3 years) and that mic:
a Sony ECM-MS907, it's a stereo microphone.
you can't beat that setup. and i'm sure you can find some cheap second hand minidiscs in some opshop.

I love minicassette recorders. I've owned two sonys (one was stolen), they make anything sound amazing, especially when you speed it up or slow it down. Much amusement can aslo be had with them by recording yourself speaking and listening to it back at double speed.

Also worth checking out are these - link . It's not mini cassette, but has three different speed options, pop-up mic, and external mic input.

old video cameras often have decent audio recording capability
especially old digital ones. if you can find one with a good battery

My sony micro cassette recorder finally died after many years of using it as a (very) lo-fi recorder. I have to say they can be useful sometimes, but I cant really think of an example, hehe. ;)
but yea, they are cool indeed.

I just got a microphone that records to my ipod.
Transfers easy to the computer then.
Nothing like recording a mad man ramblin on the el on the way to work
