i played a show last night with some girl who found me through myspace. she's kind of electro poppy, and it was her cd release party so i would go on after her. i got there for the opening act too, this awesome soul style girl who had just started using a band instead of her laptop. she was awesome, but i got scared, cause the crowd LOVED her and they were all people i had never seen before. so i'm getting nervous, then christer comes on (the main act) and it's all like dancing girls and smoke machines and live drums and keypoards and everything. so now i'm realy convinced everyone will hate my 180 bpm gabber tracks, but what to do? i go to set up, and the soundguy had is like "oh you're the square root of evil? i was supposed to be working at another bar tonight but i changed shifts so i could see you play". wooo! yay at least one person who won't leave!!! ok, so christer finishes and half the crowd goes before i even set up, haha saw that coming..... i start playing, and surprisingly there is a small crowd up front. some dance, but when the bpms go up they stop, soon to be replaced by a diferent group of dancers. it was fun.... anyway, i'm about 3 songs from the end, 180bpm crazy part of my set, and this guy comes up onstange and asks if he can drum along. i tell him it's fast and crazy, and he says no prob- do i mind? sure why not? he was really good!!!! i couldn't believe he was managing to figure out the rhythms and then add some completely new to them. i want to that again, it was coool!!!!!
then after i had some french guy tell me that he usually sees punk here but liked my techno, and some drunk english tell me it was just short of brilliant, but he wouldn't tell me what he didn't like lol. and some people told me they liked my dj set. haha. and the sound guy asked me to play a fetish night.. dunno if i'll do that one.....
turns out the drummer is a physicist who worked at cern and usually plays drums drunk. awesome.

my thought exactly!
great story frn. oh, i'd play the fetish night. there's no fans like genuine weirdos or semi-goth kids. they actually listen.. well goth's do. fetish people just talk about where they got their outfits or how long it took to make them.. but they're all excited to be there and put some effort into having fun.

awesome!
yeah, I've been working with a live drummer recently, for my new project FM Campers. He comes from a death-metal camp, and is insanely good. It's nice, even when things fall apart between me and the vocalist, having a live drummer helps everything ROLL together, as seamlessly as possible.
Plus the energy level is always turned up several notches, and the crowds love that.

sounds like an awesome night.
well done!!
id like to see more live drumming with electronica.
i once saw my mates dad drum along to some aphex on a djembe.
it was mind-shattering...but hes like a well known musician, in the folk scene though...which is mad.
