As many have pointed out, the suggestion of an Em411 cover based album is starting to take shape. With suggestion of some of the em411 users a basic rough draft of the guidelines has been formed. Any suggestions on guidelines to keep this thing solid are very well appreciated.

Also I'd like to note, this project is in no way affiliated with Em411.com (unless they want it to be *hint hint*), it is merely affiliated with em411.com's users using em411.com as a medium, so if this thing crashes and burns, (and don't expect it to), don't blame em411. Blame Jerry Falwell. Ok, here it goes:

1. Only Cover songs will be accepted. No originals, the point of this is to cover a band who has been an influence to your music. Do as many songs as you'd like. Everyone will get AT LEAST two songs, although one is more than enough. We can always vote on having additional songs.

2. No midi files. Play or program the music yourself. If the band influences you to cheat, it's probably not worth covering. Also, no samples from the original song. Though it may not be a for profit deal, let's not make any lawyers see us as targets.

3. Cover whatever aritst or band inspired your electronic music. It doesn't have to be an exclusively electronic music. Hell, my inspirations range from Dying Fetus to Frank Zappa.

4. Timeframe: We all have lives, and we can't all dedicate a solid two weeks to a song. And let's be honest, we are all perfectionists.. Bottom line is we need time. Deadline for submission is October 31st. You can make it happen, and you know it.

5. Hype it up. Get the word out there. The point of this is to get recognition to those who deserve it. The real artists.

6. Insert suggestions here.

I would say make the song an electronic music based song, as it's an electronic music community, what do you guys think?

Inside every em411er is a secret strummer.

i don't care.
i wanted to make a rather acoustic cover. but i can also make it electronic.

btw i think i'm gonna cover joy division's "disorder".

I think I will probably be covering "Cold Hard Times" by Lee Hazelwood. Cover will definitely include my newest instrument: CHILTON TALENTMAKER. You won't believe how much I pwn everybody elses cover songs. I just hold down a button and I have drums and bass and guitar and keys played back from an optical disk. Completely out of tune, at a random speed...
For this sound I will probably select from either the "polka" disc, or the "cocktail piano."
LMFAO.

oh oh oh polka AND cocktail piano!!!

(im pretty sure im gonna do a cover of 'destroy two thousand years of culture' by atari teenage riot)

i think were down for this.. and we might even DO a kate bush song..

The em in em411 stands for "Electronic Music," does it not?

Hopefully I can get a cover in for this. October gives me plenty of time: a day or so to decide what song to cover, two to three weeks to make the tune, the remainder of the time to figure out hosting/upload from dialup.

And of course, the cover will sound very much unlike the original. Otherwise, why bother?

finally settled on what i'm covering now. just starting work on a cover of 'dimples' by john lee hooker

If people really want to play semantics with this, seeing as its come up more than once, then define "electronic music".

Everyone on here uses electronics to produce their music, in some form or another or else they would be on Acoustic Music 411 dot com.

I'm up for this! Or it is too late?

yoy! all good. before proceeding, i would certainly like the EM/acoustic issue to be cleared up. personally, i am with zanf and others on this. I think it's likely that (on some level) electronics / computers will be involved in what all of us do!? So, is that cool, or does it need to be more strictly 'electronic music' than that?

personally, i'd like something like this to be considered as ok for this - link (astroid, you rock!).

what do people reckon? I'll go with the flow...and i might not even end up doing something acoustic at all - just trying to clarify the scope

Does it really fucking matter?
