Electronic Music other: Crickets chirp in triplets
Store Written August 02 2008 , Tags: crickets, chirping, polyrhythms
I just listened to a piano piece and outside a cricket chirped in a perfect polyrhythm with the song for a full minute. I thought I was a loon, but nay... he sang away.

what piano piece
?
awesome. I love coincidences like that. I get a lot of little magical things like that when i'm working on some ambient stuff, where there is some sound going on that perfectly blends in with what's going on.

Phillip Glass "Opening (Instrumental)" off of 'Glassworks'

the cricket was doing a 4 over 6 on the main arpeggiated line, which is what the left hand is doing... he kept it up for so long, I was like, (shit...)
When I was staying in a campsite in Denmark years ago, I would play my guitar in the evenings, invarious open strings tunings, droning the bass notes, and improvising on the treble strings. I'm certain the crickets would adjust their pitch to suit whatever note my bass strings were tuned to.
crickets chirp at different tempi depending on the temperature. true, i have an incredible amount of odd knowledge in my head.
at my old sax teacher's house, you'd hear a polyphony of birds as you approached. i really think it was because they'd all go and sit and listen to the free jazz jams. it'd be weird-walking through this normal olympia neighborhood and then all of a sudden this choir of birds.
neeet! you know insects dig minimalism

ducks congregate near my back door when i play tom waits. I am so fucking serious dood. they leer inside and shit.
Some years ago I was at an electronic music festival, there were three stages, and there was a point were you could hear two of the stages at the same time. I was walking by this point to go outside and get beer, and both the stages were in time, then a train passed in the distance, and the noise of the train was dead on beat too! No animals nor polyrhythm, only machines but a strange coincidence nonetheless.

the fence outside the new studio room in my house has been smothered in vines ever since i lived there...but this year it is bearing bunches of white grapes! I doubt the correlation but I would also like to believe that i am a musical druid.
What a cool thing to happen. Once my cars wipers were in sync with a Jimi Hendrix song pretty well, but thats not as cool...
Two completely different species of birds (right next to each other) chirping in 10/4 : link
