--> I finally got a monomachine MKI used, and now my dream setup is complete, and I must say that after jamming with it this morning (just the monomachine, in fact), it is absolutely perfect. I finally have the synth sounds I was lacking from the machinedrum, and I am able to sequence 4 bars, which fits in really well. For all the weird sounds and percussive stuff I have the MD which I know pretty well now (at least for the stuff I want out of it), but now I can add all this weird effect/synth stuff form the monomachine, which is radest.

And with my sweet little controller (I am working on another one for the mnm), I can jam the MD while switching stuff on the main interface etc...

Here is my first jam on the monomachine:

I am a complete newbie on this machine though, and it is very different from the machinedrum.

right on! daswesen! Nice setup! I love the monomachine. I'm partnering the mono with my ESX for my next gig. I can imagine that the MnM and MD fit together like peanut butter and jelly.

congrats
if i could get a second MnM, i would be soooo happy

on the md i'm pretty aware of the limits on sample ram (i'm using about 800 kB of samples), and kits (64 kits, which is the sounds for a pattern). Pattern islimited to 128 on both machines. So yeah you have to work within those limitations. But basically, 1 pattern = 5 minutes of dancing.

The demos I'd heard from both struck me as being squeaky clean and "nord lead harsh" for the most part. Of course, I'd said the same for alot of Reaktor patches, and forum releases here have proved otherwise since. Same could be said for the Nord G2 once the spectrum tilt is used.
The interface is impressive for each, no doubt, and I'm sure your controller makes them even better. Do you find yourself wishing it sounded a bit more lofi, or perhaps have already found a way to fix that in post?

dunno about monomachine yet, but i definitely spend quite some time getting my MD to sound more "smooth". Didn't use external gear, just some filter and volume tweaking on the individual sounds. Most sounds I use have some of the top-end removed, and volume is often about 30-40 (out of 127). The MD also sounds very harsh out of the box, the MnM less so.

is the monomachine actually mono or can you have a few sounds playing at once?

yeah bla you have 6 tracks of synthesis, which you can either control with separate tracks, or have one track control all the sounds.

i find the similarities between your setup and mine quite interesting considering the differences
7 old cheap units vs 2 new expensive machines
they have built in effects dont they? including compressors? they play a big part in my setup
yeah they have compressors, but to be honest i don't use them at all. I'm starting to look into it, but I haven't understood fuck about compression so I just stay clear of it

nice, I always wonder if I should by the mnm. The compressor in the MD is fun, and combined with the filter and frequency cuts, it really helps smooth out the MD.

nice !

now you're a soundsystem smasher.

I am super excited to hear what you do with this! I'm very impressed with all your posting/releases.

So after a few more hours spent with the MnM, i have to say it's like 1000 times deeper than the MD. The sonic possibilities are overwhelming, and adding to that the fact that you can work with "real" notes, wow. I think I will start really smooth with it, just replacing my basslines and adding some tiny little bleeps and blops before going over to making real soundscapes and things with it. Else my brain will just go into overload...

yeeeha! gonna be great...i just know it
