Standard audio mixing desks, where there's a table for your keyboard and/or mixer, a bunch of spaces for rack gear, and then a shelf above that where you put the monitor, are EVIL!
I had a chance to help mix a CD that a band I'm in is releasing. I had to do this at the drummer's studio, on his Mac and ProTools setup. After sitting for a few hours staring UP at a monitor that was above shoulder height, my neck was HURTING. Still does, actually.
I'm much happier with my ergonomic station at home. I've got my keyboard on my lap, and my LCD configured on a swivel arm to be more or less at the same level I'd hold a book or rest a laptop. Easy on my eyes, easy on my neck, and I can sit at this thing for days on end.
But staring at a monitor that is above the level of my head? No way. Ouch.
