--> So, after many, many months of collecting parts, building stuff and waiting for shitty mail-order companies to get their act together, our soundsystem had its first test yesterday. Firstly by the riverbanks of the delightfully polluted Tamagawa, and secondly in Komazawa park. We got to hear how loud it can go (loud enough) and we got to see what basslines do to the cone of our patented "bass raiser" woofer (it flexes like a motherf^cker). All in all, a good day's research. So, anyone in the greater tokyo area who wants to help reclaim public spaces, shoot me an emmail.

ok it's kind of a micro soundsystem. nice idea

don't let the size of it fool you. it goes loud
but you're right lematt - it all fits in the back of a car easily.

full specs:

main speakers - 120W kevlar-coned B&W CDM1
Subwoofer - home made sealed enclosure cabinet with 1000W Polk Audio 12" driver (all the way down to 20hz)

Rack:
Ramsa 120W power amp (for the main speakers)
Classic Pro 500W power amp (for the subwoofer)
DBX 223 crossover
Alesis 3630 stereo compressor

and not forgetting our trusty Yamaha generator - the humdinger - which handles all off the above manfully.

damn - i love reeling off the names of gear!

oh man... i wish i could be there in tokyo to test it out! some time early next year, hopefully.

Wooot!.. Man, I can't wait to check this out in person next year :D

Glad you finally got this baby off the ground, tell me, what about the local authorities trying to shut you guys down when out reclaiming the streets?

this is a good idea... i love portable soundsystems. I got a buddy who just got a job at Best Buy in the geek squad. Say what you will, but he gets industrial quality gigging gear at COST!

dylan - it's waiting for you!

jaime - yeah, it's gonna be a good one when you get over here. we've not had any trouble with the cops, but we've yet to try it in a really urban area.

dkarma - thanks. take advantage of that discount and put one together. subwoofers are easy to build too
