Electronic Music other: Got Mac - Now what?
Store Written December 28 2008 , Tags: mac
So, the MacBook arrived just a few days before X-mas. I've just now gotten around to installing all the gear I need to get this puppy up & running, and I've even taken a peak or two at Logic Express (pre-installed, looks like much bang for buck at $199).

So, now that I'm one of the cool kids, I need to know some of the insider knowledge. Point me to some whoop-ass stable freeware Mac things that'll enhance my Mac music making experience.

Have a happy new year, if you follow that calendar, and may the force be with you.

superduper if you need a backuptool, that a little more indepth than timemachine link
Do you love superduper? Perhaps I am not using it correctly, but it seems to merely make a backup of the hard drive, but if you make changes you either have to backup the hard drive, losing the older states, or... what? Am I using it incorrectly?

My main bit of cautionary advice, and you probably know this already but just incase... do not touch anything manually in the Library folder. There are two Library folders actually. One will be in your home folder. That one can be futzed with a bit, but you never want to touch the one that is on your main drive manually. If you are adding fonts, always add them to the Library fonts folder located within your home folder (home will be named most likely after yourself, depending on how the computer was setup.)

Have fun! It's awesomely fast, right? I have the new MacBook Pro, which I have heard is not too much faster than the MacBook, if at all! Logic is such a great bit of software. I highly recommend you take the plunge and buy Logic Studio if you have the cash, as it comes with amazing instruments and some fantastic plugins. You don't need anything else.
make your own plugins: link
