its not that bad. i recommend:
link theres a new vinyl mastering place on bainbridge too btw. : link (only real vinyl mastering i know of in the PNW)
Awesome! thanks for the links. i'm dieing to press some vinyl up of my music.
jdg, i'd settle for a fake vinyl master! I've been thinking lately about putting something on vinyl just for my personal satisfaction. I want to donate them to thrift stores I used to buy vinyl from, just to complete the circle.
I did read though, the record industry claims a 35% drop in revenue this past year. How can they keep claiming this shit and still be in business? It's been what- 3-5 years now that they've claimed a huge reduction. With awesome hits like "Pop Champagne" by Ron Browz or 'Get Silly' by Souljah Boy on BET and MTV, how can this be happening!? Personally, there was no change in my music revenue this year. i do fake vinyl pre-masters all the time, then they send it off to pirates press, or do GZ media, and are never happy with the outcome.
also, short run vinyls: link dont know anywhere else that'll only do 100 records. yeah it's got to be hard to make money doing that at that price.
I find it funny how differently I think about making music if I think about making it for vinyl. Is always been one of my dreams to hear myself on vinyl.
See I wouldn't want 100 done tho, maybe 2 or 3. GregTArtZ said: "Is always been one of my dreams to hear myself on vinyl. See I wouldn't want 100 done tho, maybe 2 or 3." sounds the same like on cd, cassette or whatever. believe me sorry that came acorss, pretty dumb.
to explain it more elaborate: most often it's rather disappointing, because it's just a different medium. I agree with yghartsyrt, except not long after the first play you hear crackle, and *that* is a thrill, especially in between songs. But what is not thrilling is that nasty distortion that dirt on the needle creates.
Also, I think it's more expensive to have vinyl done properly and when it's cheaply done somehow it sounds even more shallow! jesus, that 100-record run would be pretty cool. wonder if I can find something similar over here.
swift store donation: genius idea.
I would bury my dub plate in the backyard and then dig it back up and re-record that as the master. I hope that whatever I would get it made on would be the warpin-est vinyl ever. And I want a cover that'll show plenty of ring wear, and maybe mildew a little bit. A little bit like this:
link And I before I drop it at thrift stores, I will put stars next to the "good" songs with ballpoint pen. If I was in search of "perfection" I would have the digital version first recorded to a tape then cut. I think that my record would become the new master for the CD too. Awesome.. Digital + vinyl combo seems like the future.. CDs RIP, they suck anyway.
