This was awesome!! Thanks for posting this. My favorite instrument of ALL time. Too bad it took hours to change the tape banks, on top of the horrible maintenance that was always necessary. I got to actually play one in a studio in Chicago a decade ago. I couldnt stop playing "Strawberry Fields".

Sweet! I love it when they show the innards. Those grooves are awesome.

I've only gotten to play an optigan (the very poor cousin of the mellotron), but I've always loved the sound of mellotrons.
