PAULSTRETCH-1.000-M1 (mac-only)
Get it right here: [link updated - the zip wasn't workin..sorry]
link

CHANGES:
- improved performance (uses libfftw - "fastest fourier transform in the west")
- switched to portaudio_v18 (v19 caused static glitches on some machines)
- saves to .wav, for real
- window resizable (so you can stack thousands of 'em - check paulstretch_multiple)
- select audio device (use soundflower for recording realtime perfomance)
- timeline markers (mark your favorite spots)
- disable snap to fft windows, when freezin'
- added a volume slider
- changed gui to my favorite color ;)
- keyboard shortcuts:
Z - PLAY
X - FREEZE
Y - STOP
CMD-O - OPEN FILE
- some other smaller things, i don't remember right now

BUGS:
-transition between freeze and play behaves strange
- time slider moves kind of sloppy
- big fft window on small audiofiles causes CPU overload

NOTE:
I'm neither the original author of this sweet app nor am i a professional coder.
I just did an osx port with some minor modding.
Don't ask for a Windoze backport (i'll never touch that shit again).
Don't just send some shit recording thru this and call it music - that's cheating
(just kidding ;).

okay maybe i am a dummy. i open this and it opens the terminal window? i also cannot click on file to open an audio file. and what is the "multiple" thingy?

uuhh.oohh..no, the dummy is me :|
i was in hurry and didn't check..
i should'nt have put it into a zip - because the resource fork gets lost on the way...same when copying the app from within the terminal
I updated the link. It now points to a .dmg...everything should be fine now.
paulstretch_multiple is just a shell script, which launches 6 instances of the app, resized and arranged. But you need to start it in the terminal, or add the full pathname in the script (e.g. /Applications/paulstretch ...).
To quit them all at once, type "killall paulstretch" (...hmm, is this against the copy-right?).
Sorry for the fuckup...

forester is that max/msp standalone made by leaf cutter jon

thank you so much! i'm already using this for a remix i'm werkin on - getting some lovely sounds from vocals played at one millionth speed ;-) thanks again!

thanks big time

oh man good stuff. thanks a million

thanks a ton for the port.

*edit* solved my own problem. d'oh!

this thing is HOTZ.

peace
ah! thank you! this is so much fun to use.

One bug -- paulstretch forces my audio settings to 192kHz. Normally I have it set at 48kHz but whenever I start playing an audio file I hear a *pop* and then the resolution changes to 192kHz. Is there a fix for this?

Good job otherwise!

Hey dude, since you're good at compiling this stuff, do you think you could port ZynAddSubFx, too? There is a Mac OS X port available that works okay (some have reported that it is crashy) on 10.3.x but not on 10.4.x. Just thought I'd ask. Thanks!

hi soundhdacker!
i'll have a look at the samplerate issue. Normally it should switch to the SR of the audiofile you open..
With the zynaddsubfx plug I can't help you though..I'm running on 10.3.9 too :p. But I've never heard of upward compatibilty problems to tiger - so the bug must be creepin somewhere else.

Yes, many of the soundfiles that I used in paulstretch had a sample rate of 48kHz and the settings for my sound card were also set at 48lHz. I was surprised that it would switch to 192kHz. Thanks for looking into it!

how do you save to wav with this? i can only get it to output to ogg.

saving should default to .wav, but you can switch between wav/ogg in the "render selection" dialog using the flipmenu in the upperleft corner.
maybe you're using the old version, it think its default was ogg.
