Electronic Music other: more DIY effects & synth stuff, and blog

A few months late, but I've started a blog that documents my DIY junk that has been a slight obsession these last two years.

A lot of people have finally convinced me I should sell a couple too, so I'm working on that. Too bad it isn't leaving much time for actual music-ing!

omg, don't sell them or sell them for "boutique" prices. They look too cool to sell.

I hate boutique prices, and I have a day job so making profit out of them isn't really a priority. for example, I making batches of the white one with the circle designs (it's a ringmodulator) and figured $150 would be a good price.

hey thanks!
mostly acrylic paints (with a paintbrush). sometiems with transparent decal paper (for complex patterns and text), sometimes now. then I top it all off with epoxy resin. the finish feels indestructable and is smooth as glass!

well, considering I dont have an assembly line to cut corners and not a lot of free time..... ;)
and 150 canadian is more like 100 US these days
I could probably shave a lot off if I didn't spend hours painting them

I would say they are well worth that price. You did a very good job on them.

the selling is very tentative. not even sure I'll do more than a few batches. and the weird nature of the effects means that they sometimes fill a very small but very specific niche. not many bitcrushers in pedal format, or fuzzy ringmods, or waveshaped LFO tremolos, etc. so when more than three or four people ask me to build them one, I consider it. it eats up so much time though. one-offs are great because you know you might need the effect for your own set, and its fun decorating. but I'm having a bit of difficulty building say five of exactly the same thing. the layout transfering, the etching, PCB populating, drilling, sanding, priming, painting, clearcoating, buffing, wiring and testing .... and fixing when they inevitably don't work. :P I pull my hair out nearly every time and ask myself why I even bother. then a month later I have a crazy idea for a weird combination of ideas and then get excited all over again.
