So lateley iv'e been messing around with making beats using chopped and resampled amen break and then putting the beat into halftime. I haven't made anything iv'e found worthy of posting yet but man through in some sub bass and some attacked lowpass filter env. synth with a cross delay and it sounds deliciously dark and crunchy. I am having a slight problem though with it, due to the resampling of the drums to a slower speed they have lost their punch :/ iv'e tried adding compression and EQ but it doesn't help much. I also did another concept track where I added some wobble bass and it sounds like a cross between illbient and dubstep, i might upload that one soon. Im getting so bored of being stuck at the house during the week but at least it has given me more time for my music experiments.

what program do you use to chop them beats son? i'd halftime them in a program that has a good engine designed to stretch (i.e melodyn etc) also the new pro tools sound engine does a pretty damn good job in pitching beats.
Just gor a copy of alchemy from camel audio, does some great pitching as wel, combined with some sonic stuff well equiped for illbiant and dub-ish music. sounds to me that time stretching in melodyne is not the desired effect here...
layer in drums that DO have punch. Compression generally just kills punch (unless you are using the attack setting wisely). And EQ will not change the fact that the fast attack transients you had before pitch shifting are now twice as slow (more thuddy than punchy). Also, welcome to 1980s industrial music. ;) I've been having fun making banging swedish techno with Cabaret Voltaire samples and half-time 909 beats sampled with the real 909 playing on top.
