It's here! Thanks to the unrelenting genius of both myself and Mixedtape, we are pleased to announce that emFeeds has finally launched!
emFeeds is an RSS feed aggregator for electronic musicians everywhere, especially those on em411!. Anyone is welcome to add a valid RSS 2.0 feed to our database, and it – along with all the others – will be updated hourly and published into a single unified RSS feed with the latest 20 entries, community wide.
The idea behind emFeeds is to provide a place where people who create electronic music can come together and keep up on each others’ news, releases, shows, and more, though RSS feeds provided by the musicians themselves. Kind of a self sustaining community; by the people, for the people.
The design is by the extremely talented Mixedtape. He and I spent tons of time tweaking this and that and the other thing so everything is setup just so. If you find any broken-ness (IE Mac & other obscure browsers excluded), let me know so that I may fix it.
As far as the technical details go, emFeeds was written entirely in Ruby on Rails. There is no caching implemented for DB queries or page renders, but as you may have guessed, RSS feeds are cached in YAML’d object form in the DB, and updated via cron every hour, on the hour. Everything is quite snappy, and I am once again extremely happy I discovered the entire Rails stack & community. Hell, I found out about the awesome doods over at Drunk & Retired when searching Odeo for a podcast with the tag “Ruby on Rails!” Plus, this is my first deployment on OS X. Let me tell you; having an SSH client in a terminal, and not having to deal with Putty is so much more pleasant, I really just can’t put it into words.
In the end, I just hope that everyone can enjoy emFeeds, and may it bring you all the riches the world has to offer... Of course, that's still on the feature list, but hey...
Enjoy!

RoR rocks my world. Joey loved it too, which is great, because he approached it from a pure design standpoint. After a day or two of learning curve, he could design in it with no problems. Gotta love that abstraction.
