I came across this strange device when looking through Wikipedia, I seem to recall reading about it in one of David Toop's books in the past but this is the first time I've seen what a grotesque (albeit fascinating) thing it truly is.
Its purpose was to emulate the sounds and movements of a soldier being mauled by a tiger, with different keys presumably producing various sounds of distress.
It's such a shame that the organ doesn't work any more, I'm sure the Mixit potential would've been great.

Wow. I actually saw this thing last time I was in London. We didnt know what the hell it was. (As far as I remember it wasn't in the musical instrument section.) Thanks for reminding me of such a weird thing. 
The VA museum has some amazing stuff. The section of musical instruments alone possibly makes it the coolest museum ever.
