Earlier in the year I set up a dumping ground on Google Sites. Then I abandoned it after a couple weeks. This was when I was still feeling like I was in a "rut" but I wanted to learn the MPC and just post some crap. I only shared this with Scott/astroid and John/bagger288.

Then I read a post on Proswell's blog about his "10 second project" where he did a daily 10 second musical "sketch." I really liked this idea so I started doing it. And what do you know, I no longer feel like I'm in a rut. It's not exactly daily lately (though FAR more regular than it was) and I don't upload everything but this is the most up-to-date stuff now:

It's still just sketches but I've got some insight about the kinds of ideas and processes I'm interested in now, and what I've outgrown, and where I see music in the context of my life.

There's also some really old shit there. And probably some samples.

Enjoy. I'll post a proper release when I feel like I've completed something again. It's been a while but that doesn't bug me right now, I'm just enjoying myself

I was going through the shorter length files. I especially like ones with the rawer(but not necessarily harsher) sound, like 5-08-09. Lots of great ideas in there. This is proof positive that keeping the length short and making a track (nearly) daily can release alot of creativity and teach you alot too.
Two Q's: Would you say for the short tracks that you spend less than 3 hours total working on it? Are you sometimes re-amping(Mic'd amp) for distortion?
Recent blogs: Re-amping Mic, How do you do it?
yeah, less than three hours for sure, in almost every case. some might be a hair over three hours. basically my [very much less than ideal] current weekday routine is, I come home every day around 5:30, laze around a bit, eat dinner & watch tube with my wife for an hour and a half, fart around on the internet, and then around 9 or 10 start working on tunes. last night's (6-04-09) wasn't done until after midnight, hence why I set the date to today. in almost every case, I record what I worked on and then abandon it.

as I get into more of a groove with my tools, in particular the MPC, I would like to start moving towards completed tracks and more long-term goals than just daily sketches. but I don't feel that it's the time for that yet.

EDIT: didn't answer that 2nd question very well. not much re-amping but just generally overdriving inputs for distortion, either to tape or into mixer/interface. the tracks with the more extreme distortion are usually software fx - 4-19-09 organ funk is one.

in the case of amptest4-5, I did basically what you were saying, and I ran the sampler into a Squier mini guitar amp which I no longer have. then I recorded it simultaneously with a microphone going into the computer, and onto a handheld cassette recorder through its built in mic. those are each hard-panned. I haven't played with micing since then but I did like that sound actually.
mine have been a bit firm... (sry)

wow, I completely forgot about this already. you're right, it's a total old RDJ ripoff.
cool tracks, man!

except for those shitty ones...
needs moar fecal references
i like jan 13th's crappy beets.
rut roh!
thanks! I think that one was the first time I used Reaper. also I remember recording the melody without hearing it.
For me, it's a better idea to make a small bit of something every day than weeks and weeks with no new material and then attempting to make something big(ger). Every day I make sure I do something musical - even if I don't sequence or record it. one thing that's helped a lot recently is my iPod Touch. Some of the apps are just amazing little sound toys. I love it, and am going to try to incorporate it into future live sets when I can figure out HOW I'd like to do that. thanks for sharing.
I used to make songs in just 15 minutes start to finish, people actually liked them alot compared to stuff i spent much much longer on, its like a creative concentration thing i guess.
anyway i liked alot of the tracks..expecially the 2006 stuff that was just pads(tiler is a great track)...i think you need to work your drum samples a little bit more some sound quite cheesy, sometimes such as with janurary 19 it sounds really cool, other times not so cool
