a while ago on old em411 there was a thread called 'caring for your introvert' or something. i thought it was really interesting and started to read quite a bit about psychology/personality types etc etc as a result of that thread....so whoever started it(mpg??maybe)....thanks
i really cant remember the test it linked to so it could even be this one, but i dont think it is. i came across quite a few different personality tests when i was reading different sites...some are better than others.
a nice simple one is this jung typology test which i found to be very accurate. its based on the jung myers-briggs typology
i tried this test quite a few times over the following months....when i was in different moods and at different times of the day to see if the results were any different. every time the result has been the same.
when i first did the test i found some questions to be vague or too broad and didnt know weather to put 'yes' or 'no'. but then i started to notice things about myself and the way i think, after doing the test once or twice, that made the questions make more sense. so if you think WTF?? at a certain question try thinking of it in a general context.
at the end of the test you are given four letters.....this is your 'personality type'. there are also a few links to pages describing the traits and behaviours of your personality type and why you behave certain ways.
i also put my personality type into google....that came up with some really interesting results too. the most detailed and accurate i found to be this one... link
id be very interested to know what you all are. and i think some of you will find this interesting too.
room?
here is a link to the test again link
if you want to find out more about your personality type id suggest just googling your four letter code after you complete the test. some pages even go into details of what music people with a certain personality type are most likely to enjoy.
make for some good reading!

it says I'm INFP but I'm not sure...
but I imagine we all fall outside of even the best model of personality types as human minds are all different..(snowflakes contain only one ingredient and they are all different...our brains contain lots of ingredients and everyone has a slightly different mix). we're different down to our building blocks (or DNA testing wouldn't work).
It get's me thinking about evolution, our self replicating coils are currently in the process of attempting to mix new hopefully dominate personality types each time a human reproduces (to ensure human survival). So even if I fit the model perfectly, it would only take a matter of generations until an anomoly...then more, then mixes of several anomalies.
thanks for getting me thinking..sorry for the weird response.

I've spent a little time studying Jungian personality types, on which Myers-Briggs is based.
Some people are truly situational, in that their behavior is determined by the situation. However, most of us have some sort of base or core personality from which we derive our behavior.
Myers-Briggs is very much an empirical classification, being first derived from Jung's observations and then from Myers and Briggs polling of military personel. There are probably a lot of people who don't completely fit it out there. It represents a kind of "averaged" view of personalities. There are more nuanced versions of Myers-Briggs out there that attempt to capture different nuances of the 16 personality types.

Champion Idealist
The Champion Idealists are abstract in thought and speech, cooperative in accomplishing their aims, and informative and expressive when relating with others. For Champions, nothing occurs which does not have some deep ethical significance, and this, coupled with their uncanny sense of the motivations of others, gives them a talent for seeing life as an exciting drama, pregnant with possibilities for both good and evil. This type is found in only about 3 percent of the general population, but they have great influence because of their extraordinary impact on others. Champions are inclined to go everywhere and look into everything that has to do with the advance of good and the retreat of evil in the world. They can't bear to miss out on what is going on around them; they must experience, first hand, all the significant social events that affect our lives. And then they are eager to relate the stories they've uncovered, hoping to disclose the "truth" of people and issues, and to advocate causes.

thanks roshi
I just have a problem with "you always do A over B" type questions and am uncomfortable knowing that I derive my personality according to a model. I'll still pretend I'm more dynamic
I do like the idea of using these personality types to create more fleshed-out and headstrong characters in fiction.

Well, for the longest time I was thinking your personality type is your destiny.
It's not true. I think it happens to be the path of least resistance. Your destiny depends on whether on how much you resist that.
