About me
As far as em411 goes, I'm only posting snippets of weird stuff that will probably never see the light of day. I'm not looking to promote my music on here at all (anymore, because I have in the past). Go to my Virb or MySpace for more info, released tracks, booking info, etc. The URL is "letsgooutside" at the respective sites. Word life, duckets.
Electronic Music other: HAAR to TUIO to MIDI

The adventures in Max/MSP/Jitter continue. Today's project involves using HAAR cascades to track face and body parts and turn them into the grand ol' standard OSC formatted TUIO messages. Basically, this patch turns things like your mouth, eyes, nose, torso, legs, whatever into data understood by multi-touch applications.

Check out the patch w/ image here:

Might not be much to look at, but basically, this app is using our eyes to create clicks in my multi-touch MIDI controller (off screen) much like my fingers do on the touchscreen.

The final application for this will be an array of faces projected on balloons that stare into your eyes as you walk by. But note that this works with literally any HAAR cascade file. It basically just makes these cascade files useful and turns your body into an input device.

it never ceases to amaze me at the motivation you guys have for taking all aspects of technology and using it musically.
from the midi octopus to the multi touch tables to mobile music appz to infrared x/y trackers...
this is completely awesome.
you're basically pushing the cutting edge here...i mean isn't sony working on something similar only using it to control video games instead of synths?
