"Guerrilla graffiti" artist Banksy has taken aim at the cult of empty celebrity and its current poster child, Paris Hilton.

The secretive artist has smuggled 500 doctored copies of Paris Hilton's debut album into music stores throughout the UK, where they have sold without the shops' knowledge.

In place of Ms Hilton's bubble-gum pop songs, the CDs feature Banksy's own rudimentary compositions. On the cover of the doctored CD, Ms Hilton's dress has been digitally repositioned to reveal her bare breasts; on an inside photo, her head has been replaced with that of her dog.

On the back cover, the original song titles have been replaced with a list of questions: "Why am I famous?", "What have I done?" and "What am I for?"

sure there have been thousands of these actions by others. but i think banksy has a nice way to act. i like his humour. i think it'S simply that..

LOL (and not so lol, cause there's some truth in it)

i wish i could get the thoughts in my head into words as well as you do, i mean the guy spraypaints cows ffs, here's a pic from one of his shows with jamie oliver: link - clearly leading the revolution. if you think this is cool then shoot yourself (and no i don't mean that fucking literally for all the infuriating pedants on this site): link

bsr, i wont resort to name callling this time. but i think your arguing with an invisible enemy. no one has said a thing about him 'leading the revolution' or whatever. most people just seem to think he makes pretty pictures, others think theyre funny. i agree that the cow painting shit is lame and doesnt look good at all.

but i think this picture is beautiful, for example: link
and yes i know he didnt make the whole thing, but its a good idea and well done.

it's the rhetoric throughout his work that grinds my gears, his mission statement has always been subversive, so while no one here has said he was leading the revoluion i think you may have missed the point, the 'invisible enemy' isn't anyone here but his own ego, it seems that he's trying to convey this underground persona that's attempting to make a mockery of popular culture but at the same time he's courting this exact same thing in search of some kind of recognition (i really do think you again took a sentence too literally but lets not let this descend into the same bs).

fair enough, in fact i think i might agree

bwahahaha, he is my new hero (at least for today)

seriously though, I STILL don't know what paris hilton has done to get all this fame! it's like she just exists and everybody is all over her....

Good video! is that him? I know what car he drives...
he paints walls
i'd be enthusiastic if my parental bought that for me
and I got a Banksy instead.
good on him for bending the illusion around the corners a bit...
edit:my tone sometimes sucks ass//end \edit

Perhaps this is my fault for over-pruning Teknoman when I quoted him (above) in the first place, but I think perhaps you've narrowed down the scope of what Teknoman was talking about quite a bit there. He was talking more broadly about this being a problem of the human race:
TecknoMan said: ""What's wrong with getting attention?"
In my opinion, humanity will have to evolve beyond narcissism and the desire for power -- the drive for attention and recognition is a power grab, just as GWB, Cheney, whoever, try to grab power and prestige to make themselves feel bigger..."

Sorry to drag this thread up again, been away for a few days :-)

no worries, whatever the original post was, your quote made him say stuff my brain was failing to!

actually, paris hilton is a hugely successful businesswoman. she's been financially independent since she was 18, afaik. i mean, yea she's stupid and represents everything that the word 'decadence' actually means (not dark chocolate), but she's actually in control of her own life, which is more than you can say for a lot of people.
