Electronic Music other: close brush with death...
Store Written September 20 2009
So me and the band were in the middle of a 4 hour trip to Tourcoing for a gig tonight, driving top speed on the motorway, when suddenly it sounded like we were driving on ribbed gravel... the van started swerving and tipping... we all probably realized at the same time what had happened - a tire blew out. Luckily it was a back tire and luckily the driver didn't hit the breaks. After about 15 seconds of shear terror we got safely to the shoulder of the road where we were able to see the shredded wheel.

Tourcoing is lovely, btw... And lovelier still since we are all ALIVE TO SEE IT!!!!!

that's not a brush with death! I suppose it could have been if the van rolled a couple times, but this brush seems a little...

anywho, glad to hear you're having a good time and you're still in one piece.
Dude, you weren't there. The van started tipping. We were rushing at top speed with cars all around us. There are no seat belts in the vehicle and it's filled with heavy equipment. If the driver had applied even the slightest tap to the breaks, or if a truck was passing, or whatever... we would be dead.
glad to hear you are ok.
omfg...that shit is scary.
i hit a deer a while back...taht sucks too.
thank god brakes weren't sprung. I would hate to loose a fredo in my life.
Fredo I'm so glad you & your companions have come through this unharmed

would applying the brakes have caused a definite skid?
Glad your ok. We were going to a gig in Scotland at night once and this guy was driving at us, at about 90 mph on our side of the road, we were doing about 70mph. I was talking to my band mate and saw his face contort with terror. Everybody in the van screamed for their lives. I drove the van up the grass verge to the left of the oncoming car and safely back onto the road. To this day I don't know how I did it , or how we escaped alive. I like to think there is a rock and roll guardian looking out for all the good rockers out their and making sure they climb into their beds at the end of the night. Sometimes he/she messes up, and we get it. Glad you made it through.

More Rock Horror: A guy I know driving a fairly famous indie musician along the motorway in a splitter van. At 70mph in the 3rd lane the back wheel falls off. As he watches the rear wheel pass him by in the second lane he looks in his wing mirror to see huge sparks coming from the back of the van where the wheel has fallen off. With a heavy van he somehow manages to pull across 3 lanes and pull the van up. The famous dude is still touring and coming to leeds soon. I think there is something quite darkly fascinating about the combination of music and travel accidents. Probably sparked off by the death of Mark Bolan and others.
ooh and he defo did the right thing not hitting the brakes. With one less wheel you have less traction on one side, if you hit the brakes too much you will swerve violently to which ever side you have lost the wheel from. Be careful out there folks.
wow, haaaaiiiirry stories indeed! Thanks for the nice thoughts guys. The show we just did went GREAT! So emotional! hahah, I won't say this for serious, but it actually had a pretty positive effect! ugh!
near life experiences do that to you! ;-)
glad your driver had sense about him. i've lost a few to auto accidents. people just don't realize they're in a 2 ton killing machine.
also, really sorry to hear about the deer, dkarma. Living in Woodstock, I'm always worrying about that happening. It must be so depressing....
long live fredo!
Glad you're ok, brother.
Someone sabotaged the brakes of my truck last week. Now I'm terribly paranoid!
