Electronic Music discussion: I'm stuck, HELP me out.
Store Written September 25 2009 , Tags: advice, help, stuck, please
So I haven't been making many tracks lately but decided I would start working on one today, well i'm stuck on this track. Any advice on what i should add/change? It will be much appreciated.
Also, what does everyone think of the new EM411 layout? I like it, I also like the new music player.

isn't this the reason em411 has a release page?
bass, add bass.
and cowbell
Reverse, then paulstretch = hour long ambient.

Seriously though, you should get a free Dropbox account, upload the mp3 to the public folder and then you can direct link it in a release. Dropbox has been a saviour for my file hosting needs.
@yghartsyrt I thought the release page was only for finished tracks.
^^ Not at all! It's for getting feedback.

Finished tracks go to your label (...or the release page, if you can't find a label).
cool groove you got goin... The dynamics seem kind of flat, not sure why, I think maybe you need to add some sort of sonic variety, I think the lead sounds too much like the chords maybe? The bass seems kind of like it needs some more punch too. Also, that rim shot gets a little irritating, maybe a little less rim shot and more cowbell, as others have suggested ;P. But I think it sounds pretty decent so far.
Sounds like a good start so far. But you're stuck, so here's some of my unsticking ideas:

Layer 1000 things in the background at inaudible levels (I like that sort of thing).

Take a (copy of the) project and put ridiculous effects on the master and render/export multiple over-the-top/F'd-up versions of what you've got so far to see if any loops or sections can come from that. Try with different effects AND different gain structures, distortions, compressors, limiters etc. I did that here link and automated fades between versions. Funfunfun, you can try things that you haven't before and learn more about your VSTs in the process; like the ones you don't use much but got for free or whatever.

Duplicate midi tracks and layer more than 1 VSTi with effects to give the keys a lil life (or make them messy sounding).

Render it and drop it in another program to see if a different "work environment" brings different results.

Drop random "wrong" things on top of the whole thing (loops, sounds, etc.) and try to make it work. It might not and you don't have to keep it, but it might spark another idea.

I love paulstretch. Always an option. This link was like a 1/2 second guitar loop paulstretched and effected.

. . . uh. . . make it do.
