Electronic Music discussion: Increase the Bass from Contact Mics

Following on from the contact mic talk here, I came across the above article that might be useful.
It describes how to build a field effect transistor (FET) buffer. Adding one of these circuits to a contact mic restores the bass that can often be missing.
Anyone successfully using one of these already? any word on whether it made a significant difference?
Edit: here's another FET 'mint box' guide: link

Excellent link.
I know a FET buffer does wonders for tone sucked guitar pickups.
Worth a try!

i haven't tried this solution but i sometimes glue a piece of wood on top of the contact mic which also improves the sound a little bit.

is that thing passive? or does it require phantom power or something?

the hydraphone looks nice... I cant find any plasti dip in my city... which imo is alot less of a hassle (once you've found a dealer) to make it waterthight.

Theres an easier way to get around this "impedance mismatching" simply use a FET input opamp, like a burrbrown OPA2134 or maby even a TL082, they have the same high impedance as a FET, in a noninverting amplifier configuration.
