Mechp is a fuckin poser. He makes beats, raps and does shit he calls "hip hop influenced instrumental music that has been kicked in the head by classic soul and spit on by 60's orchestral pop" .... wtf does that even mean?

Electronic Music personal: Convince me not to sell my MPC
Store
Written October 28 2009 , Tags: mpc, for sale, ?
For the last two years I've been using nothing but Live. My MPC200XL has been sitting in it's case, in the closet, untouched. Is there any good reason for me to keep this around any longer? I don't play out, I don't have a hardware setup outside of the MPC and some turntables, I don't have any way to route MIDI into my computer. I'm feeling inclined to give the awesome piece of hardware a better home where it'll be more appreciated.
Should I sell it and get an MPD-16 instead?

If you don't use it why keep it? You'll want an MPD18 at least.

you could probably get an apc40 in trade for it...that would be more to your current rig's liking.

I'd keep it frankly for its sampling capabilities.
The pads are nice too.
All you really need is a bcr2000 to bridge the midi gap you seem to be having
the bcr works well w/ live too.

i'd sell and grab a trigger-finger. they look custom made to go with live's drumracks. 16 pads, 8 knobs for macros.
people seem to also like korg padkontrols.
i had an mpd16 and hated it. pads and sensitivity sucked. please don't buy one.

No, you'll be disappointed with those pads i think. They're very different.

the mpd pads are really awful .. not worth it.
if you can get rid of it and re invest the money into some music equipment that youll actually get some use out of then i think you should do it.

Do you do chops? Like you take one phrase and chop it into 16 parts .... or 12, 8,6, 4 parts ... etc..

Thanks for suggestions on what to get and not get, I'm going to check them all out.
cclub- lol. If you do get the funds, and you're still interested let me know. Chances are it'll take me some time to get around to selling it and I'll sell it back to you at a discount.
I do chops fairly often, but Live suits me just fine for that. I was thinking I could get an cheapish audio interface and a USB controller with proceeds from the sale... either that or I'll stick in a Cintiq fund.

Don't get a Cintiq.. I swear my own blood to you that better, cheaper stuff than that is so close to market.. you could probably wander over to a harbor and watch it being shipped in from china right now.

I use live for more "awkward loops". I find the MPC is so quick for chopping and quickly filter/proccess each chop in the phrase. Can't find a faster way in the Live... but once again maybe because I havn't seeked it out.
That's sort of the beauty of the MPC .. is that it's very open ended. Just like software, everyone has their own workflow and neither process is forcing you to do it "their way".

both the launch pad and the apc look great .. i have the apc, so i know its great BUT ... it is not going to help you make beats exactly .. i mean .. it kinda can .. but its really all about playing with the loops during playback.
i'd say get a good SMALL (25 key) controller so you can play the keys and mabye hit some pads/twist a couple knobs .. and consider getting the launch pad .. unless your trying to integrate external hardware into your setup and use multiple outs etc .. i would forget the sound-card. if your on a mac ( and i think you are ) the sound card you have should be good enough for the style sampling you do. the only reason i think you would wanna consider one is if you need a cue out for a digital dj'ing style setup.
yeah .. midi controller for having some touch, .. launch pad cause its cheap, fun and will give you an extra way to have play with live.
