so, I just got offered a record deal from annexia records link for my cisc work.
I have no experience with these guys, but I checked out some of the artists they have and I have to say I enjoyed them. They said they've been around since 1996 but the record label appears to be fairly new.
The offer: contract + full length release CD (real cd not cdr) digipack x 500 (first pressing with 100 promo sent all around the world)
What do you guys think? I've never really dealt with anything like this so any help or insight would be appreciated. Questions to ask, maybe someone knows more about this record label.
I think I might go for it, but first I have to find out if they are cool with the fact I'm in college and a full length is gonna take a lot of time to accomplish on top of all that work. Also, I want to take a good read through their contract before I commit to anything.
anyways, exciting news I guess.

If this label want you, why not send your demo out round some other labels, labels that are established and put out artists you would like to share a label with. Or have you already done that?

well, like I said earlier this was totally out of the blue. I don't have an album prepared or a demo to send around. I'm in college and pushing to get onto a label was the last thing on my list of things to do at the moment.
That being said, when opportunity comes knocking right?

Do it! But talk to an entertainment lawyer just to be clear about your contract details. Take time off from school to finish the album. Forfeit the fall and winter semester and plan to go back next summer or fall. That should give you enough time to do the album and pack a few live dates in to promoter the album. Sounds like a pretty good first deal. 500 digipacks into the stores and probably iTunes and Bleep.com are somewhere in the mix. That's a really nice proposal, imo. Still, though, have an entertainment lawyer translate your contract to you. And look for a manager who knows how to deal with the promoters of festivals and stuff like that. You're definitely are gonna need someone to deal with that aspect of the business for you. These are only suggestions but dive right on in if the situation feels right after you've talked with a lawyer.

IMPORTANT IMPORTANT!! even though a record deal is amazing and rare and exciting, you MUST hire a lawyer to oversee everything and explain everything to you! Record Label people are smart people, and when it comes down to it they are a business...they're not evil people by any means, but they will do as much as they can to save money...i.e. charge you with recouping advances, charge you ridiculous packaging fees, cross-collaterillizing your album budgets, etc.
*Bottom line: This is great news, but if you DO NOT hire a lawyer, you could find yourself in a heap of trouble no matter how successful you are. It's happened in the past with acts like TLC (whom had chart topping hits yet had to declare bankruptcy because they signed a contract without being careful)

for a 500 album release, probably 50/50 deal, no advance, electronic music release? that's a tad hysterical.
what you can do is see if you can find an entertainment lawyer to talk to you on the phone for free. they will tell you how hysterical you're being.
edit: what i mean is, by all means talk to a lwayer. when i was getting into contractual stuff (some fairly heavy business) i found a lwayer who read my contract and talked to me about it, for free. do that first, don't be put off by trying to hire a 300$/hr lawyer for your cut and dried contract.
