Electronic Music news: Help save BBC's 6 music!
Store Written March 02 2010
After John Peel died, the only place where you can hear and discover a diverse mix of new and interesting music in the UK is on a digital radio station run by the BBC called '6 music'.

Due to political pressure on the BBC to 'reallocate' £600 million, this iconic station is now going to be axed!

Please help save this gem for everyone!

From the facebook page:

The BBC Trust is about to publish a review into the performance of both 6Music and Radio 2.
There are rumours that the station, which has 620,000 weekly listeners and costs £7 million a year to run, could be closed in a meaningless sacrifice to politicians demanding BBC savings and a limit on the corporation’s digital ambitions.
The Trust could argue that 6’s audience reach doesn’t justify its expense and that its core audience be served in the margins of a tightened-up Radio 2.
This is a group for listeners of this iconic radio station to air their thoughts and demand that it be left on the airwaves, championing new music and cherishing the old.
Leave 6Music alone!

You forgot the sarcastic and insincere "thanks stephen harper!"
I must confess that I have never listened to Radio 6.

In work yesterday a colleague who is in his 50s was talking about this, he hadn't listened to it either but was describing it a specialist radio station, that played "Honky-tonk"
hahaha i love the idea of the bbc funding a 'honky tonk' radio station.
Hehehe - that's exactly what the BBC is for!

If they programme stuff that commercial broadcasters would, they are accused of stepping on their toes...if they broadcast stuff that is niche they are accused of wasting license payer money. no win.

Now, some Meade "Lux" Lewis : link (if teh youtubes works now?)
Its the only radio station I listen to. I Love it. It will be a shame if its axxed. It plays a bit more than Honky Tonk for sure!!
Sunday afternoons has shows by Huey (fun lovin criminals) followed by Jarvis Cocker. Not many stations could boast that. Mark (the Fall) is on every weeknight at 7 with live sessions pretty much everynight. And it did have (I hope will have again) Adam and Joe on saturday mornings, who where just v v funny. So - please sign the petition everyone!!
