Electronic Music news: Reaktor 5.5 Official Update
Store Written September 07 2010 , Tags: reaktor, 5.5
The official Reaktor 5.5 update was released on September 1st.

The last significant Reaktor update from Native Instruments was version 5.1, released in 2005. 5.5 has been a long time coming. At least we know now that Reaktor hasn't been completely abandoned.

It's mostly a GUI/workflow upgrade, but still worth the download.

maybe a reason for me to not completely abandon it as well.

i havent even had it installed for a while. way too wonky ui/workflow.
anyone got any user library favorite .ens?

or even better cool stuff youve made yourself?
I would say Weedwacker. (the Vladislav Delay presets are great!!!)

To me, with the 5.5 GUI upgrade, this is a winner.
I have been working with the demo and just downloaded the official release. I haven't spent an exhaustive amount of time with it, but so far the new GUI has already improved my workflow; everything looks a lot less cluttered and it is a lot easier to make sense of what I am looking at since I don't have to deal with multiple windows. Also, I am really into the newly included Modal Synth module. Real good stuff.
I got Komplete 7 on release day, and I must say I actually enjoy using Reaktor now, versus about 3 years ago, for reasons mentioned above, plus I think the newer ensembles sound less harsh. I look forward to finally making music with it!

F11 is full screen mode. It looks really nice. It looks like it actually belongs on stage, unlike a Windows XP theme.

The player/recorder has become a bar instead of a floating window. Looks good.

And, there's a new sample map editor. Also looks good.

No doubt it looks and handles much better.

There's still room for improvement. The new bookmarks feature is a little clunky, and there's no keyboard shortcuts for bookmarks (to the best of my knowledge).

The Electronic Instruments ensembles are all included free with the update. A $200 value, yours for only three easy payments of $0.00.

It's important to keep in mind that this is a free update. NI could have packaged this as version 6. I'm glad they didn't. It's a very nice gesture. Thanks NI!

Remember when Reaktor was on sale for $99? I can't stop thinking how great a deal that was, and it just got a whole lot better. I kind of wish I didn't already own it at the time!
I'd been jonesing for Reaktor for a long, long time but could never justify the price until it was $99. I haven't really figured out how to work it into my way of making sound, but I'm happy I have it. Mostly I wish I wasn't so dumb so I could get it to do the stuff I want.
edit: 'demo' should have been 'beta'
shit i can't wait to try this out. i loved the older versions of Weedwacker. i need update my os first though.
