Hey people.
I am buying a shortwave radio to add to my noise rig ( link well reviewed by HAMs link ), and I just can't bring myself to purchase it without free shipping, which means i have to spend five more dollars.
I want to buy some party music. That is, I want some music that people my age (late 20s) who don't necessarily share my eccentric tastes will find enjoyable. Preferably, the music will be dancey (not necessarily "dance music"). I like to have people over for dinner, so more chilled out selections are also in the offing.
Possibilities: fela kuti, mary anne hobbs (other LA beat/post dubstep), queen latifah, funk compilation, early-mid 90s hip hop, uptempo jazz eg. count basie, louis jordan (hmm, 4 disc jordan box set looks good...)....
STUFF.
more generally, what gets a good reaction for y'all when you've got people over?

am still interested to here from y'all on what you put on for a social gathering. somehow a band called 'sexual harassment' seems like it might not go over... (will listen and get back to you) i always dig stuff like the carpenters or so. late beach boys. maybe.
not really dancey. Moondog or Steve Reich is always good if it's just for having it run, while everybody is making conversation. for dancing – i don't know.
