Im on the fence of updating my EM lappy too, currently looking on the MBP 15 '. I am concidering dropping the internal superdrive for an extra ssd as mentioned in the SSD-thread. Anyone else curious about the thunderbolt I/O? If your using ableton, 4 gigs of ram is still enough, as it dont support more. Crossing fingers for 64bit support in Live 9! Additionally I am also looking for a new soundcard, firewire. I will decide during the summer when I get my tax return money, woho!

I recently upgraded my desktop. It's got an i3 in it now. At some point I'd like to put a SATA III OCZ Vertex 3 in it. I'm waiting for the price to drop a little, though. The new 25nm flash should get cheaper soon, hopefully by Christmas SATA III SSDs will be less than $2/gig. I feel I need about 120GB minimum. I have an 80GB in my netbook, and that's enough, but I don't really use it for anything but recording and internetting. Some of my project folders get quite large - in the 10s of gigabytes range.
Thunderbolt definitely looks interesting. I wonder if the audio interface market goes with Thunderbolt or USB 3.0, but I hope there are a number of high quality interfaces available for both. They're both very high bandwidth. So high, in fact, that achieving the maximum channel count won't be realistic. Even USB 3.0 is capable of (calculating...) 488 channels of 32 bit 192 khz (at 60% efficiency 3Gbit/s). That's a lot of preamps to put in a box! For video work that bandwidth will be much more useful, but for audio I can't imagine using it, except maybe for some external DSP.

win7 machine, but I'm thinking of running other os' virtually with vmware or virtualbox
so far I've only loaded acid pro on it but I'm going to try and overload a track with vsts and see how well it performs under that kind of pressure.
updates soon...
