Likes noise - no - really.....

The thing is that \\"noise\\" implies something unpleasant and I don\\\'t think that. Two sounds on top of each opther can be a very beautiful thing.

I recently found this on Youtube - Charles Wourinen's "Time's Enconium".

Won the 1970 Pulitzer Prize for music, created on the RCA mk II synthesiser

it's the piece that really got me first making noise music. Why it isn't as revered as some of Stockhausen's. electronic music is beyond me. It barely gets a mention even though Song of the Youths or Kontakte get worshipped.

Anyway, listen and imagine what it took to do this on a computer the size of your living room by punching holes in paper tape

...imagining...
Great choice! I was lucky enough to stumble on this in a thrift store a few years ago. Wonderful computer music.
"The RCA Mark II featured a fully automated binary sequencer using a paper tape reader analogous to a player piano, that would send instructions to the synthesizer,"

Holy shit I assumed this was computer-controlled! Crazy.
"The synthesizer would then output sound to a synchronized shellac record lathe next to the machine"

You know you want a synchronized record lathe. Screw headphones!
in, sane...
