but srsly, those are some awesome sounds. What did you use? I knew soemone wuld ask that and I really have trouble remembering. And I'd like to be able to point ot my shiny new copy of Ableton or Reason or something impressive, but never have got them to work the way I want.
There were some field recordings of kids talking and some wax cylinder recordings of sung and spoken vocals from the Cylinder preservation website. I used a program called "Fontana Mixer" on Mac for some basic tracks. Then, on PC, A really dodgy wav to midi conversion program called Go!Minimal. (or is it Go Minimal!) Worst wav to midi converter ever. I love it. VSTis included Tweakbench Papaya, Eric Binder's Streamsynth, something called Oildrum Marimba and probably a couple of others. Effects (apart from reverb and delays and stuff) included Paradigm Shifter from Psychic Modulation and a really strange set of effects that come as a pack from pitchtech ( link ) Everything was layered up in a editor. Some of those tracks have about six or seven layers and some of those layers have layers inside them, but have been processed together. It's all a bit old school and held together by gaffer tape and string really. Oh and I mastered them in Reaper with Voxengo Overtone GEQ, T-Sledge and elogoxa X-cita
interesting! I was expecting that it was just some crazy max patch or something. I much prefer to hear about some tape and string.
