So I got caught on film... somewhat retardedly, which is normal for me.
I volunteer at a non-profit recording studio for teens
Anywho, one of the former students made a documentary and its up on youtube now:
so enjoy.
I only show up for like a minute towards the end, if you dont know which one is me, it doesn't matter.
apparently this was on local (portland) TV for awhile, as one of my karate kids told me he saw me on TV.
Oh and if you wanna hear the whole radness of the Taco song (no, not puttin' on the ritz Taco)
you can go to myspace
link
I'm still trying to get Kayti to release her songs somehow (she's the folksy lady)

Props to the volunteerism!
Looks like there are very few participants, i'd have thought the entire place would've been swarming.

OMG If I was intersting I'd be a rockstar or something!"
If you haven't read mixerman diaries yet link , here's the part where they're filming him while he's recording someone.
MixerMan said: "As the band was making takes, I sat at the console and bopped my head around, as if I were thoroughly enjoying the playing. Occasionally, I’d get up and dance around a little, Lance would dance through my little area between the console and the counter, pretending to write down notes and enjoy himself. Even Fingaz was getting into the act, wearing his parka, and dancing all hip-hop to rock tunes. At one point he disconnected the Radar controller, brought it into the control room. He began frantically hitting buttons, pretending to be editing and yelling like a mo-fo—“Aw shit! That’s it baby! Now we got dat bad boy down, Wiggah!”
Between takes, I would talk to the band, telling them things like, “You’re on fire!” and giving them advice like, “Make it a bit more steamy in the Bridge!” and “The last chorus is a bit flat, sharpen it up!” I even threw in the obligatory, “It needs to be more green! Give me green!” The band looked at me strangely and said nothing. I was starting to regret my miserable little satire caught on film, and I now realize that this was a mistake. As much as I thought it would be funny for me to PLAY the caricature of an engineer on a rock session, I had finally realized that I already WAS that caricature of an engineer on a rock session, and so my act was similar to feeding a pig, pig. Not a good idea.
Since I could no longer enjoy myself with my new revelation that my life had been reduced to nothing short of trite, I decided to confess to Fingaz on camera that I might have gotten a little bit of pee on his parka. To add insult to injury, I explained to him that he was starting to smell a bit like urine and that it was becoming a bit of a problem. He just stared at me with a look that could kill, and I was doing everything in my power not to laugh.

Wow, it's been great to see the response on this. Thanks to everyone for the kind words.
I only just noticed this blog Laird... I don't think you look foolish... I think you look nervous.
A few factual clarifications, and some updates.
"the place probably smells like patculli"
Ha ha...No. More often than not Old Library Studio smells like baked goods and computers. We share the old library building with a very nice bakery, and the food aromas somehow get into our studio. Coffee, bacon, cinnamon, and computers being left on. Eau du Old Library Studio.
"Looks like there are very few participants, i'd have thought the entire place would've been swarming."
Sometimes it is swarming, sometimes it isn't. In 2006 (the year the film was made) Old Library Studio served over 200 teens. Many of them through their schools (there is a scene where I'm helping some of the students, and you can see I'm still wearing the visitor name tag from a local middle school.)
Teen attendance at Old Library Studio ebbs and flows. The documentary film "Noise in the Library" was filmed during Spring of 2006. Spring is always the session with lowest attendance, since everyone is trying to pull their grades up at school and doing spring sports (the top is usually Winter and Summer sessions). Also, the film crew were high school students, and they only ever managed to come when the students were working on something on one or two occasions. For some reason they could only ever make it out on tuesday, and tuesday was always a slow day.
What is interesting to note is how long the students stay in the program. The girl who made the film started coming in Fall of 2004 and has remained in the program (i think continuously) to this very day (March of 2007). The boy, Tyler, who is seen using the synthesizer has been coming since the Summer of 2005. He now runs complicated recording sessions on his own, and recently started teaching the classes !
Stitch, the boy who had the Taco Song, actually graduated from High School because of his work at Old Library Studio. (it's also worth noting that he was homeless at the time the documentary was made, this fact isn't highlighted in the documentary... he was living under the morrision bridge)
Kayti, the girl who plays the guitar and sings, is working on an album.
Sean, the kid with the rush shirt, who deconstructs the beatles wants to be a music journalist when he grows up. He's like a walking pop music encyclopedia.
