--> My friends, the Dream Tigers link have the opening spot for Dr. Octagon on Friday. I've been looking forward to the show since I love both acts, but looks like I'll be participating instead!

I got a call from one of the DT's who invited me to sit in with them. Two members of their regular 4-piece won't make it, so I'm filling in a long with another friend of theirs. Mostly they just need the energy that 4 laptop'ers brings (versus 2) as they have the set covered, but they'd like me to bring some smapples to throw in the mix.

I'm thinking some funny voice yells, some cymbals and some one-hit sound FX. The DT's do a crunk acapella tracks over booty beats mixed with glitch and big 80s synth sections. Maybe some classic synth dives would be fun. Any suggestions for good smapples?

Weeeee! I'm excited!

Anyone else have stories of opening for someone you love/respect/admire?

the best thing about it by far was getting the awesome VIP passes. good food, free water (that one is key), and getting to hang on the sides of the stages.

medusa's got a following on the west coast, but she's kind of a bit of a stoner to do anything beyond a few appearances on moesha. lady can fucking rap and sing like a mofo, though.

Wowoweewa! That is rad!

man. kool keith. that's fuckin awesome. congrats!! I am jealous!

lol. that was motion man, not kool keith ;) tho they have worked togther quite a bit.

congrats kidko - thats wicked. i am such a huge kool keith whore. went to see him two nights in a row in two different cities earlier this year. even tho its billed as 'dr octagon' i'm sure it will just be a regular kool keith and kutmasta kurt show playing tracks from all keiths most successful albums. he normally just plays 'blue flowers' and 'girl let me touch you' from octagon.

btw - the new dr octagon album is...ummm...interesting. not at all like the first apart from it has large intrumental sections. wasnt produced by automator either. i like it but it really doesnt compare to the original dr octagon. he also has another octagon project out right now called "nogatco rd." by "mr nogatco" its pretty good too. "project polaroid" is my favourite keith album of this year tho.

awesome! that is way rad!!!!!!!!

i'm pretty sure i get to open for DAT politics and kevin blechdom in nov......... i opened for books on tape once and his hd crashed so everyone was coming up to me and saying my set was rad. if he had been able to play, his set would have kicked my ass.... so that was nice in an unfortunate way. he was nice though, so i felt bad.

you guys are funny about robin.

Thx for the heads up, KidQ-- i'll see if he's selling the nogatco stuff at the show.

Funny story, Frn, though don't you think people would come up and give you props with or without books on tape? ;)

whoo, thatss very cool. congrats.

hey, vocal smaples, if you dont find them anywhere else you can have them customrecorded to your taste by yours truly

i opened up a bottle of water and doors, that should be better closed forever
I almost one time openned for the Beatles!!!

;)

Congrats! Must be very exciting!

wow Kool Keith! Excellent, congratulations
would love to have a chat with him, find out if he's as surreal as on his raps (suppose not)

this calls for a plastic wig

cool keith is notoriously schizo in real life, so believe the hype. I am totally jealous, as he is one of my favorite musicians of all times. Especially jealous to meet the crowd who shows up to see him in TX!
speaking of which, did you know that Atlanta has a huge homo-thug scene? I want to make a documentary about it someday.

Yep -- a lot of "Down Low Brothers" in Atlanta. A lot more of that everywhere in the US, I think, than a lot of people would assume...

Nice one, bodo! I'd never seen that video before, but of course i've seen the wig. Now I totally wish i had one!

The crowd should be interesting. I really hope Dallas doesn't fuck this up and leave him hanging. I've gone to good shows where no one shows up and felt ashamed to be a resident.

prunekelpnoggin- send me some "yeah!" "shiiiiiit" "what?" "UH!"

congrats man

sweet!

I'm about to steal your blog title!

have a blastman!
