--> lately i've been studying various surveys and experiments and articles about human sexuality. Before Kinsey's studies, this topic was generally regarded as trivial by most social scientists ... but it seems like we (as a society) are still just as confused on the topic as we were 100 years ago. i recently had a discussion with someone about this and it led to nowhere but insults. so i figure i'll try it with smarter people at EM411. the person (he was gay) mistook me for an "ignorant homphobe" because i was straight and I disagreed with him, ugh. i don't hate gay people, and the sad thing was i was on his side until that whole business of me being ignorant ...

so the question is: do you guys think that being gay is (a)genetic or instinctual - inherited through our parents from birth or (b)social - inherited from our social interactions with people and culture?

basically, is it nature or nurture? what's your thoughts?

i'll save my answer for a little later, i'd like to hear y'alls opinion on this.

erm ... my work blocked youtube.

What a teaser-that video.

whoa. hey, just wanted to throw my two cents in real quick... i've had lots of gay friends who were convinced it was genetic. i got the vibe from nearly all of them that they didn't _want_ to be involved in the _choice_ of their sexuality. for some reason they'd rather be victims of their own cells, but i disagree.

i believe that it's a choice. thru every single nanosecond of your entire lifespan lol - ok now ima go read the rest of the comments to become "informed"

"victim" of their cells?

wwhhhhhhhhhhoooooa doggy i could only get half-way bwaha. man, THIS IS A CHARGED TOPIC! lol
wanna know what i think? well ima say it anywayz...
i think we're all born naturally bisexual and decide where we want to go from there. it's obvious that most people are straight - look at our social norms.
roshi: i think if you got called faggot and it hurts your feelings, that that doesnt make you who you are. but you still react, obviously, off of your own charged emotions. its important to work thru your feelings, and i like to tell myself, "the universe is large enough to handle my emotions" often, it's not a case of being too emotional, but not being emotional enough! (edit: no offense or undesired attention meant to you roshi, but i feel i can sympathize, having been called faggot for every day of my public school life (which thankfully only lasted till the end of 7th grade - i too knew from a very young age

what were we talking about again? oh ya, i say we're all born bisexual and make our choices based on... well you know... "stuff"

ps im an emo hot type bi kid who loves porn and (insert popular emo band as if i knew) jerking off. OMG DID I JUST SAY THAT LOL!!!!

fredo: ya man, victim's of their own cells. can you imagine? people believe their at the mercy of their own cells, sometimes. actually, i think most people might be under that suspicion.

edit: im still reading thru these comments, and just wanted to respond to the probable retort: "that's craziness james, you silly - what about evolution and our need to propegate! what if we all chose to be gay for some reasons, like these crazy 'social norms'" and i answer to that with this: we know what it takes to further life, and we accomodate to facilitate this requirement.... AND I FUCKING LOVE IT!

did you choose to be stupid ;)

i don't think it's being born so much bisexual as asexual (psychologically, of course, not physically) but we are pretty much on the same page i think.
mlbot: i did, yes, but after years of trying that way, i decided to be unstupid. you should try it lol

We need to propagate, eh? Yeah but not nearly at the rate we're going now. There's just too many humans.

BTW the Kinsey report was on the top 10 most dangerous books list that i posted on another blog (i think it was todays empires, tommoriws ashes)

whoooo, sexuality is DANGEROUS BUSINESS.

i brought this up at my socio/psych club. they weren't too receptive.

they're a bunch of conservative poseurs anyway though

license: that's a great point. i was speaking in terms of a species in general, but you're right. we're horribly overpopulated. and if being gay were a little more widespread, i believe it would be a wonderful, natural population control. a lot better than one-child rules and forced abortions and fucking world wars!

datathinner: sexuality is a dangerous business? how so? you mean business like corporate entity? cause i never had to draw a gun when i was with anyone in bed.... well, there was this one time

it is dangerous business becasue you will be labeled a terrorist for talking about it.

i can't believe you haven't seen this yet, though. truly scary.

everasmah: LOL.

Okay, I'll try... but only if you start trying to be un-ugly. :P
