Anyone on em411 playing this? Is there a em411 Guild yet, LOL!
I just bought it on saturday, after getting sick of Shadowbane, and I must say so far I'm really impressed by the graphics and social interation.
The problem I have with regular MMORPG's is that unless you start near the release date, you''l never be able to progress without getting bullied by the big-boy's who have been playing for three years and are at lvl70. I had this problem with Eve-Online. I spent the whole time mining for hours at a time to get a few quid to upgrade, only to get pounded by some huge cruiser!

mine is Athlon2Ghz, 9800Pro, 1GoRAM... I'm running it in 1280*960 with medium details, but using a special fog mod that get rid of the ugly distant landscape and increases the fps
i also have the issue when quitting the game... that is, no crash, but i get an error message... no consequences though on the savegames or the OS

Oblivion is a lot of fun, I like it better than Morrowind - the story of the inhabitants of the area and the conflicts seemed kind of constructed to me. Oblivion arguably has a more straightforward storyline, but pulls it off a lot better (dare I say it reaches good old Ultima proportions at times).
Last MMORPG I played was the Anarchy Online beta, but I played a lot of Ultima Online and Asheron's Call 1 in the late 90s. I'm glad I shook off that addiction ;) - I also was frustrated by the lack of people that actually wanted to roleplay their characters.

anyone play everquest? I'm pretty into that.
My favorite ever was ultimaIV, I like the feeling of a big world with freedom and no real point. I hate when a story line makes me do something I dont want to. I think tony hawk skateboarding was along the same lines.
WOW was ok, but a lot of annoying d00dz and it seemed pretty easy.

A recap bulletin:
I borrowed my mates oblivion DVD, when I had a 48 hr internet outage last week. Afte about 3hrs of tweaking the graphics settings to get an acceptable sub xbox360 level of satisfaction, I was pretty amazed with the quality of the visuals. things have come along way since my last times of dabbling with game graphics (2003). I loved all the textures and subtle details.
The main thing about this I didn't like is that it felt like a very static storyline. Listen to bad dialogue, kill beasts, listen to follow up dialogue " oh, just one more thing!", kill beasts. I hate the whole "You are the lead role in the story" type games.
Another thing I hated was the amount of crap that you can pick up. Is this just to add realism? Is it so you have to think about what you really need? The big problem with this was mainly the amount of times it got me arrested. The first time I got into trouble was when after killing masses of demon/imp thingies I failed to rescue the count who lived in the castle ( I think this was a predefined part of the story line). Well, he had some pretty neat threads on, and they where alot lighter than the armor I had aquired. Without haste I took them, as he wasn't going to need them any more, and I'd be able to get around a bit faster. 3Hrs. later I'm strutting around in this count dudes gear, and I get arrested by the 5-0 for stealing. wtf!?! I just went out on a limb to try to save this guy, the least he could do is not grass on me for pinching his kit.
After I come out of prison (10days in game time!) I continue the quest. My mission involves me going to a specific tavern to meet an informer type guy. As I step inside the tavern I am greeted by the guy behind the bar(taverner?) I approach him and attempt to speak to him by clicking on him with my mouse. Instead, as my aim was a little off I accidently pick up a fork that was on the bar. "STOP THEIF!!!" Huh? I didn't mean to pick it up, so drop it quickly where I found it. The barman doesn't want to talk to anymore, as he doesn't trust me. 2 minutes later, the pigs come charging through the door. "So, you think you can get away with stealing, huh?". Another 10 game days in the slammer.
I don't know if the writers of this game are on a moralistic tip, or the game engine is just a little too tetchy. I hope if I come round your house and randomly pick-up a piece of cutlery, you won't get the riot-squad on my back.
Anyway Oblivion is 'RPG!'. I don't like RPG, I can't role-play, I'm too much of a figment of my imagination as it is. I play MMORPG's and CORPG's which are very different. 'Massively-Multiplayer', and 'Competitive'. No one really role-plays on the servers. (other than the guys that re-inact the game in the woods. WTF!?!)
To put it simply.. imagine playing a game like Oblivion. You are doing a mission that involves comleting a dungeon and retreiving an item, etc. Now imagine bumping into a person playing that same level you are playing, and he gets to the finish before you and has retrieved said item. Do you kill him, or just torture him until he gives that item to you. If he kills you, you can always pm your clan to attack him when he least expects?
sorry for the rant
