astroid/a gulag in my mouth
Release
Author: astroid on December 09 2006

so this happened because the first song i made to deantoni's drum part sucked ass, and folks let me know.
and then i remembered that shostakovich made some preludes and fugues, and i happily started to make this. then i heard the actual shostakovich fugues and got very very depressed.
listened again tonight and liked it again so here tis. rough like anal sex with a black bear.
sorry about the pic.

Wasn't it very popular in the 70ies to make disco versions of popular classical tunes? This reminds me of that sort of music, but without the catchy melodies. This is pretty chromatic. Skillfull work indeed. And I love the preludes and fugues by shostakovich!

I guess my teeth arent so bad, lol. Great panio movement.
I second the paino emulator/sampler question. I've often found myself
in a room starring at the wall thinking, "what fucking software does he use
for like orchestral/painos/synths, its always astep above most everything
I'm hearing on-line. Cool man.

those intro beat fills and some other of the beats sound
like Billy Cobham, and if that paino was a distorted guitar
I would have thought it was Mahavishnu, awesome.

lol
it's the "gigapiano" that comes with gigastudio. it's the shit.
i'm still having some problems with this- the drums are rad, and well, i like the "fugue," but they clash. don't quite know what to do. oh well.

i know! i know!
i crushed it up in the mids so i could hear the notes. too many notes. i like it having too many notes, but how do i hear them all? the drums, conversely, aren't crushed.

i think i'm gonna try sidechaining the piano compression to the drums. and make it not so midrangey. what would you do, john? besides play less notes. i think i know, actually. i'm gonna have to go in and micromix the whole thing-split up the piano midi and ride faders on the drum elements.
thanks everyone for listening and commenting.
i know it's very much "pastiche". can't help it. this is kind of exactly the type of thing i want to hear. like wendy carlos style bach things, but made from scratch.
